Another Coolant temp sensor question

All right gurus .. bought a 1998 dodge 1500 360 4x4 and I found this switch wired to the coolant temp sensor. Does anyone know what it is or does ?

I have seen that on some rice rockets to try to squeeze a few extra ponies or mpg. The pcm changes fuel and timing slightly by the temp of the engine. Temp sensor is a resistor so you can add something to add or reduce resistance and trick the pcm. They make them for map sensor maf sensors and iat.
