Needing to know how well its pulling on the bottom end. A buddy is running this combo with 5.13s and its a dog on bottom end and doesnt come on until 3,000. Any personal experience appreciated.

What size tires?

The harness and programming was done at Jim's Performance. Motor ran great with a 6 to 1 atlas and now that my friend is running it with the 205 it's got nothing until 3,000 rpms. I checked it with HP Tuners and everything's good. So unless it could be transmission or tq converter I'm thinking gearing.

Jim's performance aren't really custom tunes! (Dunno what he has done to the motor) but a convertor that would work with a 6:1 case won't work as good with a 2:1! Yes gearing is a lot different but a convertor built for the setup and kind of riding he does will make a tremendous difference! I recommend Ptc!

Only thing he bought was the motor. I was running the 5.3 with a 400 and the 6to1 and a stock 1800 tq converter and of course it would light up the tires. He's running a stock stall off the shelf tq converter.
Yeah it's not a dyno tune for sure but it's just a stock 5.3. Motor runs great, no missing or stuttering in neutral and idles better then my 408.

You thinking a bad torque converter Adam?

Re:

I had about the same setup in my old buggy. 5.3 th400 205 and 5.13s in the axles. I just ran a stock converter for like an 85 chevy. It did better on the top end but it wasnt a dog down low either. Im thinking a good converter would be the first thing id tell him to try. Like adam said a setup for 6 to 1 would be off for a 205.

I don't necessarily think bad convertor just wrong one. My dads buggy stockish 6.0 t400 3:1 atlas 6.72's 5800# 44" pitbulls with a stock convertor was sluggish until mid to high rpm went with a 11" convertor built for the complete setup and it was like adding 100hp it went from sluggish to good throttle response and would pull into second gear without falling on it's face! It still needs to be tuned I feel like it has potential to run better but it's not bad enough to be worth the time and money.
