Bad to tack it?

So I have my custom 35spline shafts. It was my first time doing that so I measured 10 times. But in sliding them into the axle I want to make sure the shaft doesn't go in too far and limit the spline engagement.

So here is my ideas.
1: put a tack weld by one of the ends of the splines to stop it from going in past the splines

2: measure the distance from between splines in the spool and cut a spacer that would float inside the spool preventing the shafts from going in to deep.

3: drill a small hole in the spool and put a stop nut in it.

My favorite idea is the weld. I figure one tack won't hurt. And will give me an exact length for any future shafts

Tack was most common way to prevent axle float in Toyota axles back in the day. Should work fine

What outers are you using? Stubs should retain the shafts with a snap ring.

I have a snap ring groove. My concern is if the shaft is a little too long I have no way of telling if I have partial spline engagement or full. The tack would stop it at max.
