On the jacket, I'd save yourself the money and just go with the ARC or the like, 80 bucks. It kept me warm on the road ride back to the truck at Taneum after a work party, and we ran 40-50 the whole way in the hail/rain. I've also seen talk of shoei's having a wierd fit, to be comfy you have to have a "shoei" head basicly. There are a ton of high quality options that are a ton cheaper. If you're looking at comuting with it, simpson makes their MX helmet with a face shield, my dad has one he seems to like, but it isn't as good as a set of goggles in the dust for keeping it out of your eyes. Going to be my next helmet most likely. You can get a helmet that's DOT/Snell approved for under $100 bucks these days (AFX makes one that comes in at 90 or so, and they don't skimp on quality). If you plan on dirt riding it, I'd shy away from a full street pant, best bet a nice over the boot mx/offroad pant IMO. Nice doesn't mean expensive either, my recon's are a great product and I think I got the jersy and pants set for 70 on ebay.
