I dont do it w/ people around. Actually, little F***8ers like that get on my nerves too. We normally take our time and dont rush. On back roads we race, until we see other cars/people. Then we slow down out of respect for them, no sense in giving anyone a heart attack. For the majority of sportbikers that I know this is the norm. Generalizing me into that "punk" category is pretty insulting. The only time I use my speed on the street is to get out of a bad situation. Did it once when I was stuck between 3 cars and a big rig. Hit 105 or so on I5, there was a WASP 1 car behind me that didnt even attempt to pull me over even though he took the same exit I did and was still 1 car behind me. In fact, Ive been "called out" to race on the freeway and on surface streets. Ive been begged to do a wheelie, some have even been flashed by females for it (I dont do stunts). These people arent worth my time, gas, or life. There is a time and place for everything! If we (any of us) didnt push the limits 1 way or another we would never get better. We'd still be doing those little trails behind our houses rather than attempting the con. The only way to push the limits of this type of bike is to do what I do. 2 ways to do it. 1 - track time (PIR). Problem is that it gets expensive and theyre not a 24/7 operation. 2 - back roads, twisties, canyons, whatever you wanna call em. You take your time when you have to and you rip it when you can. Been through Elbe many times but NEVER exceed the speed limit!
