Clocking a figure 8 NP205

I decided to try to clock a 205 we are using for this jeep project. I didn't want to wait for a clicking ring to get here so I decided to do it myself. If I screw it up I can just weld the holes shut.
I took 8 bolts out on the input plate and removed it. At this point I cleaned the surface.

I the took my transfer punch and cut it down to 1-1/4". I set the input plate in the appropriate position and used the transfer punch and large punch to transfer the holes.

After that I just tapped the drilled and taped the holes and a little massaging with the tap.

I used axle grease to keep shavings out of the case. 2 holes could not be reused

I knew that a round pattern could be re tapped, but I think that a figure 8 is thinner in between the bolt holes ? Are you going to tare your case down, clean & twin stick it ?
 
more pics of side view plz looks like it could possible work as long as the material is thick enough to hold the threads. good job.... i may have to try.. that let us know how it works out
