What is your preference for pistols?
I am looking at 40 cal and 45 cal

The springfield XD 3'' version looks like a good concealed gun...
I looked at the glocks and didn't find one that fit my hand.
The HK's or at least the one I was holding for 800 or so was SWEET but it was a full size pistol and not a good one to pack.

Thoughts?

I already have a snub nose 357 so I am not looking for a revolver...

to be honest i would go for a .45. the stopping power of a .45 is perfect for a carry weapon. but in my opinion, dont buy a .45 unless it's a 1911. i just hate the cheesy trigger assemblies and everything about the others. although springfields xd .45 wouldnt be a bad choice because the 1911's are spendy, and they are picky as to what you shoot through them. another non 1911 .45 i would look at is a taurus. both of those two are very reasonable priced and look to be well built guns. what kind of price range are you looking in? i shot a 3" sub compact kimber .45 1911 for the first time a couple weeks ago and that was a blast. but 4" is probably your best bet to be small enough to carry and a long enough barrel to gain accuracy at the range. i was only accurate out to about 10 yards with the 3" whereas 25 yards with the 4"
 
i personally carry the S&W .40 and love the gun.

but it all comes down to YOUR comfort... go to a shop that has a range and put a few rounds through a couple. then go with what fits you the best, for size and weight, etc.
 
I have two different 1911s. Never carry 'em.

S&W 38 snub nose, 5 shot, hollowpoints. This one I never leave behind. Ever.

Better half has a Taurus 38 snub, featherweight, 5 shot, hollowpoints.

The revolver can be fired while still inside the coat pocket, it's far and away easier to conceal, doesn't weigh anything. You buy a bigger gun, then it has to be holstered behind the back or in an armpit, etc. Then you can't take off the coat during the summer. Always wondering who's going to freak out and call the cops because you walk into a Safeway and they think you're going to go nuts inside. With the snubbies, it's in a pants pocket or a purse and nobody ever knows you've got it.

So if I was you, I'd just carry what I already had (.357) and buy 4x4 parts instead
 
Get which ever one fits your hand the best...being able to work the safety, mag release & slide release with one hand w/o adjusting your hand on the grip is more important then what "looks good".


HK, Sig, Beretta, Springfield, etc...whatever...
 
I personally like the DAO on the P2000......smooth pull.....hammer breaks like glass. No external safety to fumble with.
 
Thanks for the comments, I think I am going to go to the range and try a few different ones... I should probably just carry the snub nosed 357 and buy beadlocks and a DSLR instead....
 
Apparently Im the first Glock lover....

G23 - .40 cal

Its not the size of the round (to a degree), its where you put it. The Vtech dude had a 9mm and .22 and killed 31 + himself. Like others have said, go to a range and throw lead downrange. I like the glock because after I draw and aim my natural hold/aimpoint nearly perfectly aligns the sights. W/ the 1911's I need to adjust my sight picture which wastes time.

If it were me doing it and I wanted a good compromise in caliber and be able to pack it I'd get a Commander length 1911 in .38 super. That's just my two cents of course.
 
I've got a browning hi-power with 2 14 round mags and a 30 round mag. i love shooting it. but a just purchased a xd 40 service pistol,4" barrel for a really good price, thats after i put a couple of hundered round though a buddys tactical xd40. its alot of fun when you can hit a 1' square piece of steel at 100 yards :fawkdancesmiley: . I've also shot the 1911's, both the commander and the service model, also shot the h&k usp in 45.yea the 45 have more stopping power ,but the 9mm and 40's will go thru steel and glass and keep going, the 45's ***ment and die out. thats my .02:awesomework:
 
I like my old Ruger single 6 chambred in .357mag. It's old, it's beat and looks like a cowboy caried it around for 50 years but I can shoot it like it's a .22 rifle. I like old guns:D
 
Glock 27 for everyday,, G22 for extended patrols... Keep in mind, if it dont go bang every time you pull the trigger its a hammer and not worth carrying. I can say that my glocks do that. Even full of mud,,, If its my life,, its Glock... The Springfields look nice,,, Ive seen a lot of "nice" guns that malfunction when dirty,, or dont get fed the right ammo,, or its cloudy, or it was fired on a Thursday..... Glock,, and dont look back.

.45? well,, it is a bigger slug,, traveling quite a bit slower,,, hmmm.. The .40 is a nice inbetween caliber. Fast, and lots of muzzle energy. Get some Silvertips in 155-165 grain,, and whoa to one on the receiving end... The other advantage is you get 9MM capacity. THe .45 case is too damn big for it (capacity). Yes,, It should only take one shot..but..... theres strength in numbers :redneck:

Ditto, this gets carried when possible, 13 round mags and one ready to go, cocked and locked. Mine's 9mm but they make/made them in .40. Otherwise the PPK sees carry when it gets hard to conceal the BHP. Never leave home without at least one of them.

x3 on the Sig, very nice trigger pull, decocker, DA/SA, 13rd mags (P228). A 9 has plenty of stopping power, it's all about placement:;
 
I carry a Kimber CDP (Cutsom defense package) in 45. It's a big slow moving (compared to other calibers) slug that's going to pack a huge punch when it hits. The CDP is customized with all the nice bells and whistles to make it easy to draw if it should ever need to be. It also comes in different lengths and frame sizes, mines medium frame. My wife carries a Ruger SP101. Nice gun as well. Small snub nose in .357, 5 round DA only. There are alot to choose from out there. Pick the one that fits you best and ask alot of questions.

Very satisfied with it so far (Until I get an extra $2K laying around for an Ed Brown Kobra Karry :drooling1:)

I just picked up a S&W Sigma .40 two weeks ago and have put about 200 rounds though it. I LOVE it. For surely not a purse gun, but it's going to be great for hunting season and for carrying around in the pickup with me while on deliveries and just driving around up in the woods.

My next firearm purchase will either be a new 12ga. or something smaller like a 9mm that will be my purse gun.
