Prove me wrong craigslist (WAS) better back in the day!!! **** at least it would let to put a location in and f$%cking people would understand it. The data colection group has me living 200 miles away, and people cant read a location and research it. Rant over

Craigslist was more better for sure. Marketplace is a necessary evil for sure.

If I message you about something you're selling, I have done my research and know what you have and know how I can get it.

I still want to like Craigslist, but it lost a lot of traffic after disabling the escort side of things. Maybe that trickled down to a lot of the other parts of the site losing traffic.

FB marketplace has been useful, but I do miss the simplicity of Craigslist.

If I message you about something you're selling, I have done my research and know what you have and know how I can get it.
LOL makes me miss the old Auto Trader days....

Both avenues definitely allow "Bad Sellers" and Bad Buyers" to coexist and annoy the "Good Sellers/Buyers".

Good point there. I hate that aspect of selling things or hate the inverse when trying to buy something. Unresponsive sellers or still having items for sale that sold weeks ago.

Got multiple offers on 73-85 Chevy truck parts I got tired of looking at, 3 cabs and ok frames, had clear ***les. Multiple axles, mostly 1/2 axles drivetrain wise, kept a couple dana 44f. And a running and driveable 76 3/4 4x4, priced at $3400. Set me off was guy calling about the 76 only, and started talking to me like I was his ****ing kid, I stopped it and refused sale, he persisted, he asked me how old i was I said just turnded 50 last week. Je kinda shut up, I feel like i was getting scammed.

Put a side x side up for sale recently on marketplace woke up to over 50 spam messages making it look like i was sending them messages, put slide in camper for sale 2 hours ago same ****s starting again

Joining specific buy/sale/trade groups is more work on FB, but yields much better results.
I recently found a semi-rare interior piece for my Tacoma in just a few hours on a 1st gen Tacoma group, and have been able to find other very niche parts easily also.

I have an ad on Marketplace for firewood for sale, with a specific description/pricing/pictures of what they would be getting, and I still get dumbass offers and people from hundreds of miles away messaging me.

I can't figure things out Marketplace wise. I still throw things on Craigslist, but don't remember the last time I actually sold anything on that one or had anyone interested in anything from there either.

Had some unneeded items for sale for 3ish weeks without a single nibble, then both items sold within 48 hours of each other with 3-4 interested buyers in that same time frame. I had lowered the price a whopping $25 each, but other than that, nothing had changed. :dunno:

Have had a patio table for sale for a neighbor for a few weeks too, but the only two people that have messaged about the table. Both ended up saying I was too far away from them, which my location is documented in a few places in that ad, so I guess reading comprehension fails them...:dunno:

They ask me where i live and they are oh **** thats to far to drive. I guess people cant read anymore, or to many computer geeks just like ****ing with people.

Location wise, one of the first things I do when I find something I may be interested in, is check the location before even reading the full ad or looking through all the pictures.

Reckon I must be weir din that way though.

2006 slide in for 8 foot bed heat, stove, AC work, fridge doesnt. Has a newer roof done by previous owner $1800

****book's business model is to get you to endlessly scroll, for ad $$. So they throw all kinds of **** in there rather than what you are looking for. Unless that changes it will always be a poor option. Also the built in messenger adds to the problem, makes too easy for people to get that dopamine hit on something on their bucket list.

Interesting. I think that FB Market place destroyed Craigslist.

I recently had 8 total marketplace ads listed. Some one ton axles and guitars. More or less no traffic for 6 or 7 weeks, then I sold all of it within one week. Pretty odd algorithms goimg on with FB. It sucks, but works sometimes.

Also, even though you see a location listed in your own ad, doesn't necessarily mean that the buyer sees it. I'm not sure why it shows sometimes and not others, but I always put my location in the text of my ad now, so it's super clear.

I've had people get mad at me for asking Their location when I couldn't find it anywhere in their ad.

Similar scenario for me with not a single hit on anything for sell and then selling multiple items with 10 days of each other. Hadn't considered algorithm shenanigans though.

Location wise, I put it on the map, have a zip code listed in the ad ***le, and expressly document where I'll meet them with exact address in the body of the ad. I just think people something shiny they may want/vaguely be interested in and click "Is this still available?'' before reading everything.
