Sold/Expired Dana 80 5.38 gears

Re: Dana 80, F-550 Monobeam, 5.38 gears

Would like to get some of this stuff out of my yard. I'll probably be going to Shamrock just for Sat. I can bring stuff with me ... just make offers at this point. You won't insult me.

Re: Dana 80, F-550 Monobeam, 5.38 gears

what's the tube Dia on the Mono Beam? Also do these knuckles fit the large F-550 axle and joint? I can't remember what the benefit of the F-550 stuff was.

Re: Dana 80, F-550 Monobeam, 5.38 gears

Yes, these use the big huge ball joints, bigger than 250/350.

8-lug UB on 550 knuckle:

(8-lug UB does not come with the axle, 10-lug does.)

Axle tube dia. On the 550 mono is 3.75, tube thickness is about .370. (A hair less than 3/8)

Re: Dana 80, F-550 Monobeam, 5.38 gears

Thanks. Do these knuckles run the same size axle shaft u joint as a standard dana 60?

Re: Dana 80, F-550 Monobeam, 5.38 gears

The 250/350 axles run 1480 joints. (Same as "standard" 60's.) 1480 shafts will fit these knuckles. But the stock f-450/550 4wd platform used 35-spline 1550 shafts. The cool thing about the 550 knuckels is that there is enough space inside of them to fit a rockwell joint or a rockwell-size RCV joint.

So you could run standard 1480 stuff. But it would be a shame to do so when these knuckles lend themselves to so much more stuff that is so much bigger.

Re: Dana 80, F-550 Monobeam, 5.38 gears

I just measured the bolt pattern on the 80. All this time I kind of just assumed it was 8x6.5. It is in fact 8x170 though. That means it would be a great match for a Superduty HP 60 front.

Re: Dana 80, F-550 Monobeam, 5.38 gears

What spline shafts come in the 80? Are the gears gone or just broke?

Re: Dana 80, F-550 Monobeam, 5.38 gears

Have not pulled a shaft to see but should be 35 splines.

The gears in it are damaged but not exploded to where anything else is damaged. It's just the tips of a few teeth. I don't know how that happens. The 5.38 gears I have are new.
