• Help Support Hardline Crawlers :

Dash Pillars for rollcage

The infamous Tracy had those on her jeep when she went ass over teakettle down hells revenge in moab.

I personally think they are crap. A single, continuous piece of DOM tube is much stronger. Sure it may hinder getting in/out of the rig, but once you are in there, it's hard to notice.

Here's a link to the cage I built in my TJ. http://www.nw-wheelers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7094 I see from your sig that you have a YJ, so you don't really have the option of going through the dash in the same manner.

I don't like it... but that's just my opinion.

I went through this same dilemma when I built my cage. I ended up just ditching the full doors.

However, you could just as easily go with tube right there and just open the door if you need to roll down the window. Not very convenient and makes it harder to get in and out, I know... but sacrifices have to be made in the name of safety... IMO, the part of the cage holding up the tube protecting the primary occupants of the vehicle is not the place I would skimp on, not matter how good/safe poison spyder says their product is.

Any pics from that event, after the little mishap.

Here's the link to the website with the original video. As well as pictures from before and after. All she had was the dash tie in pieces. EDIT: This link is borked right now, but should be up soon. The whole toys by troy site is down right now.

Anywho, the video is all over the internet.

Sorry for pulling up an old thread but as it was a topic of late I thought it would be good to actually see pics of Tracy's Jeep after the roll. Note that it was not the dash supports that failed but how they were attached to the dash. Just the same I agree with the majority that I would rather have a piece of tube running to the floor than just the OR dash mount. That being said I do currently have the PSC dash to floor supports for my YJ. I am planning on removing them and running tube all the way to the floor. I just feel better about it.

That cage is actually pretty strong. The weakest point is where the spider logo is laser cut. They've gotten rid of the spider logo and now just have a circle cut out. This jeep rolled very hard and the cage saved his life.

It's actually not that tough to install a real front downtube thru the dash itself. This way it doesn't interfere with the doors or with foot placesment. Plus, it allows you to have a front frame mount, by continueing the downtube thru the floor with sandwich plates. The only substantial interference issues you'll have are with the blower vents for the outside heater ducts.

I'm OK with the Poison Spyder safety. Just saying you have some options.

Pat at ThoseGuysRod&Customs did mine for a really reasonable $$. If you want to see the cage work in person, let me know.

Link didn't work, but I think you are talking about that spider they laser cut in the piller. We debated that a few years ago....couldn't figure out why the took almost all the strenght out of the material with that cut.
I don't like it one bit.

BTW...here is a like to a test I did a few years ago to. I DTed (destructive tested) some pipe, HREW and DOM.
I go by HopeRocks on that board. (03rubicon was not yet banned there:D )
