do i need to do a season membership if i'm just planning to run 2-3 races?

Its up to you. Payouts are higher, members receive 100% payout vs 75% for non members, you also qualify for the season purse. Membership also includes 3 armbands per event, free or heavily discounted camping rates at all parks, and other goodies from sponsors. As well as, sponsor prizes and additional payouts.
