On a newer truck that doesn't have manual hubs, does the front drive shaft turn all the time? No mods--exactly the way it was made at the factory.

I am thinking that to allow shift on the fly, it would have to be turning on a part-time 4wd system.

Most chain drive t-cases are shift on the fly. I did that all the time on my 85 nissan. Start loosing traction, reach down and pop it up into 4hi. But I had manual hubs.

What kind of vehicle? Usually with center axle disconnect like YJs and XJs everything but one sides outer turns.

Generally--not a specific vehicle. Jeep Grand Cherokee. Ford F250. Dodge Ram 1500.

Late model truck or SUV with a part-time 4wd.
