Help upgrading my old Toyota

I'd get ahold of Chop Shop and have him set the gears up for you. He set up some with an Aussie Locker for me and I wheeled on it quite a bit and put almost 30k miles on them before trading the truck. As far as I know it's still going strong.
 
Choppy can help you with the lift info also, w/o a bunch of BS. I'm not a huge fan of trailgear but I ended up with a set of 5.29 gears from them. I had Chop set them up and have flogged them mercilessly w/o issue.
 
There's also some cheaper solutions on the lift like using rears up front and some good ol chev 63s in the rear. Im not sure how the trail gear springs work but I know the ones im suggesting work well IMO.

I use allot of rears up front and 63 inch chevys. I agree, they work very well.

For what hes doing a trail gear kit will work well with 33s. If you get a TG kit DO NOT get the 5 inch springs. They are HUGE. Nobody listens and buys them anyways and then have to sell them and get 3 inchers after they realize they have built a monster truck.

I dont think it does anything myself.

I have still see cryoed stuff break.

But folks with cryo stuff will stand behind it cuz they want to believe it helps.

I havent seen ANY proof that it adds ANY strength at all. No tests, no proof.


This is based off of a certain experience at the hammers with a certain axle breaking machine.

Marlin swore up and down that the 1979 tcase outputs were stronger than all other years.

Marlin had a 1979 output shaft and it was cryoed and given to Bobby to test in the machine in front of over 300 people.
Bobby was releasing his new chromo output shafts at the same time.

The stocker broke at 2500 ft/lbs
The marlin CRYOED 1979 stocker broke at 2500 ft/lbs
The new chromo broke at 4000 ft/lbs

That proves two things to me.

1 Judging strength without a testing machine to record and test consistently is not possible. Even a guy like Marlin with years of experience and broken parts under his belt still "believed" in a part that he was "sure" was better until a machine proved it was just a hunch and not proof at all.

2 The test showed me that cryoing a stock shaft did NOTHING for the shitty metal it was made from and that starting with better steel is better than "believing" is cryo voodoo on average steel.

Do you have "faith" in cryo? Got proof?:corn:
 
**** breaks....----Not to mention, should you break said part, and it's been 'altered' (cryo'd), you can pretty much kiss your warranty g'bye (if it has a warranty...)...:awesomework:
 
But doesn't Bobby heat treat gear sets to reduce the hardness then cryo them? He says that for a non daily driver the softer gears will handle the shock loads better w/o knocking teeth off.
 
If your experienced in the ways of gear installs---can be done using original bearings....but yeah, it's usually best to go with fresh...
also, another thing to consider----get a crush sleeve eliminator kit for each 3rd...:awesomework:
