Was wonder if you guys and gals like one more then the other and please explain why. The wife and I are looking into buying one or the other and was just wondering the pros and cons before we dump the cash on something. Kinda leaning towards the Ipad more than the laptop but just not sure. Will be used for just dinking around on at the house and taking on trips. I am thinking a Ipad will have a little better resale value in the long run too. But would really like to here what you guys have to say that owns one or the other or both! Thanks Jeff:awesomework:

Ipad can be used as a camera too. I just can't see spending that much money on one. I bought a kindle fire and it does just fine.

Laptop to use as a computer (get a wireless keyboard and a wireless mouse to make it easier to use when its more stationary).

Get a Kindle Fire for dinking around.

You can be into both for less than a Ipad. Get fixed internet at your house with an inexpensive wi-fi to feed the Kindle. Then figure out what you like best.

I'm no computer snob, but we recently got a Kindle and its a very fun TOY, but we're still figuring things out. But for $200 its been a good experiment and the bigger screen is nice for games and such compared to the wife's smart phone. For real computer work, its my [work] laptop or the good old-fashioned desk-top I'm on right now.

As Mark said both. I never thought I would want an iPad but I got one for work, and use it all the time. The great thing about it is you can take it with you on the go, we use it for mapping/gps, listening to music, and killing time on road trips.

And just around the house I love it for browsing forums and websites.

But it sucks for doing work (things like writing long emails, doing spreadsheets, etc) in those cases it's nice to have a laptop.

We are in the process of downsizing our home office space. End goal is a small desk set up with a docking station, monitor, keyboard mouse, for a laptop, and then a couple iPads/kindles for goofing off with.

Something else worth advertising here, the otter box case for the iPad. As I said above I got mine for work (hvac tech) so all have otter boxes. I've dropped mine off a 12 foot ladder, stepped on it, and spilt my coffee on it twice.

Totally worth the money.

Yeah we already have a desktop computer set-up so not really wanting to use it for writing essays or anything like that. I was just wanting something to use while sitting on the couch, or out in the garage, or for taking on trips or just laying in bed. Please keep the responses coming!

i have an IPAD... spendy but fun. Didn't think i would use it as much as i do....go figure i guess.

x2 on the case....so worth it. Mine is in the garage as much as i am :awesomework:

I, although I don't have one, prefer the iPad for quick messing around and time passing things. I have used my sister's and her husbands since they first came out.

I have just not pulled the trigger on purchasing one for myself, but will be soon.

with that said...

They work well for social media and web browsing. But if I am traveling I always carry my netbook around with me for any actual "computer work" that I need to perform.

even as great as the iPads and Kindles are, there are certain things that they just cannot do. Even with all the many apps that are available for these items, those too have thier limitations. For those reasons, I carry my netbook around.

Why a netbook and not a laptop?? well, mainly because of the compact size. My laptop is a 17" widescreen, my netbook is a 10" widescreen. That makes it more friendly to pack around. I rarely use cd/dvd drives... if i know i will be needing something from a disk, I will just image it to my external drive.

plus, my netbook only cost about $170.

just my $.02 worth.

iPad3, I will be purchasing here soon, but I just have some other priorities to deal with first.

If you are thinking about resell value, don't buy electronics.. lol

you can access your computer through the i pad with the splashtop app, which is great for travel, especially when you forget something at home. You can just pull it up and go. I don't think I could do without either one, but I use my devices all of the time. if you aren't really into all of the apps and features that an i pad has, i would definitely get a Kindle fire though.

Hey honkey,

Michelle has the Ipad 2 and its pretty cool for messing around on, kinda sucks to type on but good for lookin around on forums from where ever and for criagslist since i know your always lookin for that great deal:D its easier to carry around than a laptop.

I would definatly recommend the otterbox for it. I got one for hers and its saved it a few that it dove off the couch.

come over and check it out if ya want.
