Jeep cj7 renegade quadratrac transmission pros and cons

So my dad has been in search for a cj7 cruiser/trail ride for a few months now. He stumbled across a 1979 cj7 renegade. It looks like good condition. Small lift with 33's hard top hard full doors too. 304 v8 with an auto. He doesn't seem to recall the quadratrac transmissions that were offered in few of them and asked me. And I don't have a clue. So just curious to see what's the pros and cons on it? No transfer case? 4x4 all the time?

There are many different cases that received that nomiclature... do you have any more info?
