A little about myself. I’m 47 married 25 yrs this year. 2 daughters. 1 in the Navy, proud father. 1 in college, almost done. Grandfather of one little future off-roader. He loves the yj at 2 years old. I do Comerical construction and have done for the last 17 years. Got into rock climbing in 2016 and loved it from the start. Had my first rig till about 3 years ago and wanted to upgrade. Now I have a 91 YJ on tons 5:13/ 43’s. It’s a propane rig. The engine in it was worn out so I got a new one. Just got it put in this last week. Was setting the timing like the 2015 post said to do, but couldn’t get it set. Noticed the headers were bright red when I killed it. This is my first propane engine. Reading a lot, but never had this happen. Been working on engines sense I was a young man. No master mechanic. But know a few things.

Welcome, I'd offer some advice but my propane knowledge is based on a gas grill and my buddy heater.

For what it's worth, I know that propane wants higher compression. So, you'll likely have issues if youre running standard low compression engines.

Thanks for the input. 9;4.1 compression is the engine’s spec. Maybe right on the crest of the low compression area.

The compression is fine. It will run as low as 8 to1 , maybe lower. Propane burns slower than gas. That is why it likes timing. Also why you can have much higher compression. Just add some propane till you can smell it. Then back off a little.

Agreed. 9.4:1 seems like plenty of compression. If you get tired of running propane, I've had amazing success with the Holley Sniper EFI, too. Just if you aren't a propane fan. Seems like you're getting some good advice here, and are probably well on your way to getting your rig squared away.

Thank you for the input. I'll try that route

So I believe the propane mixer needs to be rebuilt. Did some digging and a bunch of reading. I’m not able to adjust the amount of propane. The adjustment screw doesn’t do anything. So I’m needing rebuild kit.
Impco 425 C1-30 Mixer.
I Amy have found a kit at Nash fuels, but if anyone has any other place they can think of please let me know. Impco says they don’t have any.
