Walker Valley Advisory Group,

On May 1, 2012, we had to close a section of the Mainline Trail after a washout occurred. DNR had concerns about public safety and sediment runoff reaching Walker Creek. DNR staff and Department of Ecology are currently assessing the cause of the washout and potential solutions to repair / renovate the trail to get it open as soon as possible. Our goal is to work with you all, who are interested in and invested in the continued operation of the Walker Valley ORV Area. Together, we will define the project objectives, identify needed resources, and implement repairs/renovations. At this early point, it is difficult to provide a timeline for reopening the trail. We cannot begin any renovation projects until the trail dries out and becomes workable again

Last night the DNR focus group discussed potential solutions to this problem.

A team will be working on a timeline within the next 2 weeks to figure out what and when this can be fixed, and some potential temporary solutions to open at least some trail up.

Everyone agrees that this needs to be open ASAP. Should have an update by Wednesday the 23rd.

Edit, we can't meet til the week after. (DNR training next week) Probably will have an update by the 23rd.

Well, it's not like we haven't lost the Mainline before. Last time it was for trees and took a year. Guess everyone will have to go to... wait, there isn't anything else left is there?

An email was just sent out today apparently stating that the 16th worked best for everyone, and at 9am to boot......When was the 16th at 9 EVER an option I'd like to know...last I heard the options were the 21st, 22nd, or 23rd...

Wait so today?? WTF

Called David this am, and he screwed up the email date;

The official date is 5/23/12 at 9 AM in the main lot....

Its not today, but that email is not for public consumption. You should have an updated one from David way if you are part of the group that is slated to go up there.

There should be a more public announcement by next friday the 25th.

do not show up if you did not receive an email

You're right, it (the email itself) is not for public consumption. However, per David, the "meeting of the minds" is up for anyone who can and is willing to provide constructive input as to coming up with a solution for the matter at hand (both short and long term), in which those that wish to partake are more than welcome to...If you plan on coming out to complain about this or that, then this is not the meeting for you...
See you all out there...:awesomework:

Hi All:

Is this closed section of trail on the Lower Mainline Trail or the Upper Mainline Trail (near the Expressway)?

Thanks!

Alan

Upper Mainline Alan, just about 1/4 mile before the turnoff to Expressway...just below the tight switchback...

Hi All:

Thank you ZukKev for the clarification!

There will be some more official news coming down the pike in the next few days -- but I can say this:

A plan for a potential re-opening of expressway is under development, due to DNR June 3rd. (The idea is to hopefully open by the end of June). This would create an upper loop so people could run those trails. You would have to access it from top, going from ez-valley connector.

We've also generated some alternatives to fixing the washout and/or restoration and bypassing it. Right now a 'best possible' re-opening is late August or September, and could be longer if we run into any external blockers (geology, timber sales, etc)

Obviously this is all in flux right now, but DNR is committed to getting a good fix in a reasonable amount of time.
