Chad, Tom, Terry and I got to the lakebed friday morning. Hammertown was set up but not many folks were there yet.

We got camp set up got the rigs ready and headed out to run up Jack to the top, down to the mailboxes and then down Sledge.

Arrival on the lakebed at our normal camping spot. Just far enough from Hammertown to be quiet, but close enough to the action to be available to folks. Hammer Heights is behind me over the hill from this photo.

This is from the top of the hill. You can see Hammertown in the background.

This is the line I wanted last year and was afraid to beat my D30 like a read headed stepchild. This year I spanked it with the new D60

After running down Sledge we ran back to camp for some lunch and beers. This was how we found the beers.
DSC01941_zpsa73348d1.jpg

After lunch we headed out to Outer limits. One of my favorite drives at the Hammers is just the trip itself to the bottom of outer limits. It's way out there and just fun to blast across the desert at top speed.

I really wish I had a photo of it, but tom had the passenger tire on the dark rock on the left of this photo with the drivers tire about 4 feet in the air. He was *****ing about my front bumper being in his way until the weight of the jeep shifted when it caught traction. The front bumper saved him from an almost complete rollover.

Tom seconds before breaking the drivers D60 stub shaft.
DSC01990_zps8d40d158.jpg

After breaking the stub shaft we pulled the naughty bits out of the hub and drove down the trail. Tom earned the nickname "flopathon" after going down the ledges and ending up on his side with his "Jesus take the wheel" moments. Not having the both tires on the front end pulling probably didn't help anything.

Nice pics Karl, I need to go back because it is too fun there. That line up Jack hammer was tempting but it looked like a bad choice in a Samurai :eeek:

Panorama from the lake bed monday morning.
DSC02132_zpsd818dd15.jpg

Monday we went scouting for a good place to watch the race. We ended up running the canyon next to wrecking ball. It had a great set of obstacles and some "rimrock-esque" sidehilling to it. But it was a lot of fun as we were able to blase a trail nobody had tried before. Or if someone had, there were no tracks on it.

I took this photo looking down at where we started. We just drove over the hills to where we were. It was awesome.
DSC02134_zps222956ad.jpg

Once we got on top, Chad called work like a poosay. Here is a photo of Chad, on vacation, working.
DSC02136_zps37a838fb.jpg

From where we were, Chad and I dropped down into Wrecking ball about halfway through the trail. It was "fun" to say the least. Can you say toboggan run? Anywho here is a photo of the bottom of the waterfall.
DSC02140_zpsd6b3e236.jpg

Chad on the right line at the waterfall. Tom spotted both me and him through there. No winching and we both crawled it.

DSC02177_zps1b2716f1.jpg

After Wrecking Ball we were looking for an exit strategy for our race day vista. We tried getting out without crossing the race course. We ended up at the top of a canyon that was definitely for "buggies" or "those with huge brass balls". Anywho the trail had been run before. We thought it was Full of Hate, but think it was called Mary Jane because we ended up running Full of Hate on the way down.

We eventually got to a point in the canyon where you had to commit or turn around.

Tom sucking seat cover. This photo doesn't do this justice. It is loose and there is zero traction. Once you commit to it there is a sweeping left hand turn that is damn near straight down. Not fun to say the least.
DSC02205_zpsdda9f0df.jpg

LCQ/Qualifying Day one. We had the best seats in the house because we showed up at 0630 to get them. There are definitely some campfire stories of the douchebaggery we saw that morning.

Clark with the Stop and chat. It's such a bummer down a KOH because there are so many things to do and people to see it damn near impossible to go meet everyone you want to and wheel in one week.

Excellent write up! Sorry i didn't get to wheel with you that night, the offer was much appreciated though, you guys are always a pleasure to wheel and hang out with. We ended up making a night run through full of hate instead.:D
