That is some serious action, is a risk you take with that type of racing. I wounder if the road was still all gravel if they would have been going as fast as they were. Pikes Peak is just not quite the same now that it paved all the way to the top.

That was my thought, most of the old pikes peak wrecks I saw video from when it was dirt didn't have the initial 50 foot out, 50 foot down huck that one had before you even really begin your tumble.

It's not the same race to me at all, still an awesome event, but, well, pavement is for getting to the race track, dirt is for racin'.
