Ok, I came across this article:

PROMISES, PROMISES: Is Obama dog a rescue or not?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090413/ap_on_go_pr_wh/obama_dog

"The Obamas repeatedly said they wanted it to be a rescued dog such as one from a shelter.

...

Enter Bo, a 6-month-old puppy given up by his first owner and matched with the Obamas through his breeders."

The article further goes into the dog being a gift from Sen. Edward Kennedy, found through a dog breeder Kennedy uses, and spending a month with Kennedy's dog trainer. Additionally, here is the breeders take on it:

"Bo's breeder, Martha Stern of Boyd, Texas, said she doesn't consider Bo a rescued dog. Owners of dogs from the kennel she and her husband run must sign contracts requiring them to return the dogs to the Sterns if they do not work out, she said. Bo went from his first home, in Washington, to the Kennedys' trainer in Virginia, and now to the White House, she said."

So, this make me wonder how hard it would be to find a rescue dog Obama's daughter can have (like me, she has allergies). Granted, this is something I do from time to time, as I would like a dog. Just to be chartible, I decided to look for the same breed the Obamas have, and not one of the other breeds out there (such as poodle). So, I went over to petfinder.com and entered Portuguese in the breed search. Among the results, I got this one:

Pepper Portuguese Water Dog [Mix]
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=13477448

"Meet Pepper! She is an adorable and sweet 2-3 yr old Portuguese Water dog that we found in a high kill shelter! She loves kids and other dogs. We think she would be ok with cats as well."

Oh, and she is in Washington, DC.

So, based on this, it would not have been hard to find a dog the Obamas would have truly been saving the life of, as they had said they wanted to.

How pathetic that we're reduced to *****ing about the First Family's choice in pets :shaking:

Exactly!! Who ****in cares!!! We can thank all the actors that are suddenly experts on things after being in a ****ing movie and all the damn tabloids for this retarded mindset most of America seems to have now!

How pathetic that obumis had to resort to lying about where they got the dog...

I will admit, I noticed this mostly because I am allergic to dogs (like the Obama girl), and was interested in how they solved the issue, as I would like a dog at some point, and wonder if I could make a rescue dog work.

I will also say that there are far more important things than the guy's dog. If he can't talk straight about something as minor as his dog, and weaves a story, what does that mean about the major issues that it really does matter what he does?
