Im looking for a new tow pig. The price range of the late 90's early 2000's Dodge v10s look appealing. Besides being a gas guzzling whore what else can I expect?

Known for cracked heads and head gaskets that leak oil... and it's a gas guzzling whore. I'm told that they're like a late model Ford in that you can't pull the heads with the cab on the truck to fix these issues, but I've never had the misfortune so I can't say if that's true or not first hand.

what can I expect?

for every cummins owner to laugh there ass's off at you and your billy bad ass v10 as they pass you on every hill and every fuel station..

dump a ton of $ into one trying to get it to breath and actually make power

enjoy maintanance....

My dad had a 98 V10 and loved it... I used it to pull with a bunch.. great power they do get real thursty tho.. Truck pulled any thing and didnt slow down on hills.... The earlyer ones 94-96 i beleave.... Have a issue with the coils cross firing and burning up coils.... Was fixed in the later models!!

had a 96 bought used, no problems with it for the 40,000 miles I had it. It is quiet. very smooth. good power from 1700-4000. 12-13 mpg with a light load on hwy. 9.5-10 city. heavy trailer loads you'll get about 8. Compares very favorably to what ford and chevy offer. You pay a lot less than a diesel initial. If you frequently haul a lot, get a diesel. If you just need big block power and the heavy duty running gear that accompanies it, you won't be disappointed.

I have both, My V10 has cost me less then the oil burner, never any problems with it, tows nice....
My smoker has had some problems, so who knows...
Don't pay attention to me however, I must be wrong for liking my gasser...

Curious why you have two trucks that will essentially do the same things?

I know a guy that has a 97, it has 170k on it and has been a great rig.. I was just talking to him about it today, he lives in Colorado and it got hammered with hail and they had to total it out.. lol

My Dad had a '95 Ram 2500 4x4 with the V-10, never had any real issues with it. And hauled anything I could throw onto my trailer:awesomework:
