God bless a Volvo 240! I though about making a offroad rig out of a 240 wagon. Wouldn't need any armor. Damn body would fawk up the rocks though :****:
 
^^My Buddy had one when we were like 15 we wood drive in his pasture. That theng :tc had no brakes except the parking brake grate fun
 
We had 2 of the things. One made it past 200k before the oil pressure went so high it was pushing the dipstick out. The other made it well into the 400k range with original driveline. It had been in at least 2 accidents, countless fields, a bunch of logging trails, drifted all over the place, and survived 3 teenagers. It had one decent dent and all the trim fell off. Interior was wore slap out. We couldn't kill it so figured we wouldn't give anyone else the pleasure. Drove it to the salvage yard and dropped it off :****:
 
That some sort of Norinko or Arasaka? Mosin Nagant maybe? I'm not too versed in those older style long guns.
 
Mosin Nagant 91/30. Shoots a 7.62x54R cartridge that is similar in power to a hot 308 or mild 30-06. I've got 115$ in it as you see it. I just had the front sight reworked with a thinner and fully adjustable post. These damn things are fun! They made shorter variants (Norinco 53, M44, and I think the M38). They are the same thing except for barrel length. The shorter barrel variants make a hell of a flash and racket when they go off. :woot:

That's pretty much on same par with my buddy's Chinese Arasaka, think it was made in the early 50's. It may even shoot the same exact round, he said it was 7.62x 50-something, but can't remember exactly what he said it was. I know it was bigger than the AK47 7.62x39 and he said it was the loudest rifle he'd ever shot and would go clean through half inch plate steel. He traded a pistol for it and he got several hundred steel core armor piercing rounds with it. Don't even think you can find steel core fmj's anymore....might could run across some at a gun show or something.

I just bought the shorter Mosan Nagant a few months ago with 150 rounds, synthetic stock and a scope, haven't shot it yet but it look fun, it's a 1943 and i also have a 1913 Mauser , i wish these guns could talk to see where they have been throughout their lives
 
Alot of those Arisakas are good guns. The Pre-war models were actually really well built and finished. The later ones were very crude, even more so than most war time Mosins. Those are chambered in several calibers including a 6.5mm, 7mm, and a 7.7mm. However the Chinese never made Arisakas that I know of. More than likely, your buddy has a Chinese made Norinco type 53 which is chambered for the same 7.62x54R. It is a M44 clone with a side folding spike bayonet. They are fun and serviceable rifles with a few being very accurate with the right ammo. The AP ammo sounds Chinese too. They loved that stuff.

My Mosin isn't that bad on the shoulder at all even with the steel buttplate. :eek: It's a little over 9lbs loaded which helps a bit. Just hold it real tight into your shoulder and you will be okay. It only hits like a fawkin mule when you are scared of it and are afraid to pull it in tight.

Alot of these old war horses are still around and can be had pretty cheap. I like em. Most of them have a character to em that a brand new rifle just won't have. There is nothing like looking at a piece of old war iron with trench art on it. I would have a few K98 Mausers or a Garand or even a 1903 if I wasn't trying to build another AR. This is going to be one bad ***** though. :****:

I did a full sporter build on a 1937 model 91/30 last year. These rifles are impressive for their brute strength and simplicity and there is surplus ammo around for as little as $.20 / round in bulk. There is also good aftermarket support since there are gazillions of them. Check out RockSolid industries for scope mount and bolt mods. Their website has a good "tips" section with some easy and inexpensive mods and Ken, the owner, is a very cool guy who just loves to pass along what he's learned.

I did a build thread on the Midwest Wheelers website, if you're interested in modifying your rifle. I also posted a few tips and tricks.

I plan on buying another one and leaving it all original, bottom line big fun for cheap!
 
I actually got 2 of them. I had plans for a sporter build for one and leave the other original. When I got to the store, almost every one of them looked brand new. I got a 38 Izhevsk with a tiger striped stock and a 36 model Izhevsk. Both had great bores. They were too nice to hack up. I still may get me a ugly one that has been counterbored to make a short range, scout scoped pine goat stomper.

Cool I need to do some research then so I can prove him wrong HAHA! Like I said I don't know **** about those old long guns, he just told me it was a Chinese Arisaka. Maybe it is a Norinko, but I know it's a 7.62x50 something so he could be completely wrong all the way around.
 
JD, I was partially right. The Chinese never made Arisakas, but there were Arisakas that were given to the Chinese from the Russians. In the late 30's Japan pretty much invaded China. China was split into 3 main factions, one of which was a puppet government set up under a Japanese rule. I believe there were up to 80,000 Chinese troops and some of them were issued Japanese weapons. When Japan thought they had China under control, they tried to drive north into Russia. The Russians kicked all kinds of wholesale ass and sent them back south. The Russians later armed another Chinese faction with the captured Japanese weapons. Your buddy may actually have a Chinese Arisaka. It's impossible to tell without pictures though. If it is a 7.62x54R, it will not be an Arisaka. Most Arisakas were chambered in 6.5x50 or 7.7x58.
