When those first came out they gave the dealerships opportunities to buy those based on overall sales. My dealership got one red one right as they came out and then another baby blue one later on before we could sell the red one. We had the red one on private auction for like 6 months, bids got up to half a million but the owner was wanting $650,000 and wouldn't let it go for a penny less. By the time the blue one came they were getting more common and obtainable going for around $250,000 so the owner decided to just keep the red one. He was a semi-decent guy but lets just say he rarely went down from his palace to socialize with normal people. He drove it home and parked it in his garage and never drove it again. It was right after Katrina hit New Orleans and he boarded up the windows to his garage because he was afraid that "roving bands of refugees" would come look in and try to steal it. (Keep in mind, this was in Columbus, GA, hours and hours from NO. I don't think I ever heard of a single NO refugee that far north while I lived there.) As far as I know that car is still sitting in his garage rotting.
 
I know of several Katrina families that were local to where I live (around Fort Payne, AL). I know people that owns renter houses that were letting families stay in them for little to no cost. That's far northeast 'Bama.
 
I wouldn't call it rotting. I know a guy with a 69 Camaro pace car convertible with 2300 actual miles and he has turned down 250k for it. He has it insured for 750.
 
I remember when the ford gt came out, they did some prototype testing at barbers motorsport park. I was working at tom williams and we took a handful of the porshe driving experience cars back to the track, we were doing warranty work on them.About 10 minutes before we got there, they had put one in the tire barrier. It was beat all to hell, I remember checking it out and seeing how roughly the car was put together. No paint on anything, no wire loom, harness just zip tied to the chassis, all the wires were the same white color, bare interior, but they hauled balls around the track! Exhaust was pretty much open as well and they sounded nasty gassing it outta the corners. :)
 
Just over 2 months This week. Starting to smile and laugh. This little girl is a handful!

This was pretty soon after Katrina, I don't recall the exact timeline, but like soon enough to where people would have had to have pretty much picked up and headed straight to GA to be there in time for there to be any appreciable amount of refugees. And even to this day, I hadn't heard of the zombie-like hordes roaming rich neighborhoods and stealing GT's out of garages. Now I live 3 hours from N.O. We have tons of Katrina refugees here, did the day after Katrina hit. We didn't have really any crime issues as a result that I am aware of. Every one I've met so far has been good folks.

We never heard of any problems with them either. Although, when the April 2011 tornadoes came through, there's was looting and stealing going on like crazy around here. But that's neither here nor there.
 
Buddy of mine left his Cherokee at my place. Tarp was trying to blow off... So I fixed it!! :****:

Just moved into this new place with 5 acres and most of it is wooded so I've been clearing it to make more room for the horses. Before starting, it was all as thick as that in the background. Still have a lot to do, but this is after 2 afternoons at a couple hours each.



 
This spot was a little tight yesterday! :****: He made it out and I followed in mine :driving:
