Hardline Crawlers - Rock Bouncer Builds, Tech & Off-Road Trail Talk

Help Support Hardline Crawlers:

I loooove Asheville! That first spot looks to be Wicked Weed Brewery! That was one of my favorite joints there. Where is the 2nd spot? That's not Highland Brewery is it?

Actually, that 1st spot resembles Ben's Tune-up, on 2nd thought.

Edit: No, that's definitely Wicked Weed! :spin: :spin: :drinkers:

Nice boat. I always liked the Bajas. There are not as many of those around the lake we go to. All of them I have ever seen, I heard first, and that is cool!!!

That is crazy, right? I have two chaparrals, one has brovo three and one has twin Volvo penta. Both are the same way. You would think they could put a dip stick somewhere. Sometimes you have to heat the inner prop to get it off. Than you need a new seal. Such a big deal.

I don't wanna be that guy....since my tie downs are far from perfect. That strap though ....weld some rings on the side of the trailer a little closer to the tires. It'd almost suck to lose a yj off the trailer.

Re:

It would be even worst to kill an innocent person. 4 straps on 4 corners. It needs to hold if the trailer gets upset.

**** he's doin better than I did! I pulled mine all over the place with one strap on front and one in the back. There toward the end I started putting one more safety strap on the front molaugh

I am guilty of one strap on the back axle and the winch cable up front :****:

I do have folding ramps locked into place though... Still less than optimal

Re:

In ideal conditions sure it'll stay on. Someone runs out in front of you, you make some emergency maneuvers and the trailer gets squirelly, rig comes off the trailer and into a innocent bystander because it's saves less than a couple of minutes and a few dollars to securely strap it down? Not trying to be a **** and I know you'll never be ever to stop all accidents, but for a few bucks and a couple minutes I know I feel so much better knowing I did it right.

Ive always heard thats hard on the winch to use it to tie down ur rig, the bouncing and jerking can mess it up, i see a ton of crazy unsecured stuff going down the highway and the one that gets me is guys who dont cross their safety chains, theyre not doing much good not being crossed

If it's winched down tight enough, shouldn't be much bouncing and jerking lol.

What do you mean about the safety chains being crossed, that's a new one on me. Simply taking your right safety chain and hooking it on the left side of the hitch, and so on? What's the difference?

^^^^^ he nailed it and the winch is sucking down the suspension and unless u get it really tight its gonna give and thats prob not good on ur suspension, and technically ur suppose to secure from ur axles in a criss cross securement

Then what happens when a strap breaks at the axle and they're crossed? Pulls the rig to the side.

No way in hell I'd tow anything with just one strap. I use a 2" 12k strap with matching axle straps at each corner.

A few years back someone stopped dead in a four lane highway right in front of me while I was towing the buggy. I locked the brakes down and slid into the back of them at probably about 20 MPH. One of the axle straps on the rear of the buggy snapped in two and the buggy shifted sideways enough that one tire was almost off the trailer. If I would've only had one strap on it the buggy probably would've come through the back window of the truck. **** that, I kinda like my life. Straps aren't that expensive. Don't be that guy.

There was a pretty good tie-down thread on here. The crossing vs straight thing came up, and was talked about pretty well. I don't cross, slight angle to the outside, as short as possible. Always 4 straps..well usually one is a come along ::)
