All you gotta do is make sure all faucets are off and unscrew the old element and screw the new one in real quick. You might lose 2 cups of water, the vacuum will keep the water from pouring out.

Edit: I just saw that you knew that trick.

what kind of rod is that? Usually it breaks loose from the cast not right down the middle of the weld. If that's nickel rod your weld is not big enough.

. Its a mig welder, I was welding my truss to the top of the rear end housing, all I had to heat it up with was a hand held propane torch, guess I'm going to grind that junk out and get a real torch and get it cherry red and try it again.

Lost my dog on Thursday and fell into this one today. Was shopping around for bird dogs and my cousin had this one he didn't have time for anymore. Just got her home and couldn't be happier with her. Just walking around the yard you can tell she's highly intelligent and obedient.

Yeah I figured it needed a good draining anyways. BUT.....that mf'r was so damn full of **** in the bottom, there was no draining all of it out anyway. If the new element doesn't fix it, we gonna trash it and buy a new one. It's at the renter house, so don't want to spend more than I have to. Had about 6 or 7" of sediment in the bottom. Almost flush with the bottom of the lower element hole.

Look at all that ****. Ridiculous. That's why the water was draining slowly, it was having to sift through all that to get to the drain nozzle.

I need to do that and replace the bottom element in mine. My house has a small jacuzzi tub but not enough water heater to fill it with hot water. It ends up being lukewarm

You got it. Never heard of one till my cousin got this one and now that she's mine I'm super impressed with her. She's out of Tennessee and spent some time with a trainer down there as well. They did a good job.

Red is likely too far. 400ish maybe. That's where I always went with my 14b shaves.
 
JD. Get a shop vac.take some 1/2'' metal conduit from Menards and bend a 60 degree angle in it. Duct tape the **** out of the conduit to shop vac and suck all that sediment out. Win. Been there, done that.

If the new element takes care of the problem, I may do that. Gotta make sure it is going to function as it should before I spend anymore time/money on it. If I ever do replace it, gonna have to replace the pipes running to it too. They are plastic all the way to the metal coupler screwing into the top holes. Plastic valves....and old....I felt like I was going to break the damn valves trying to close them to shut the water flow off.

If you don't get that **** out, you element will not work well. Speaking from experience here... Last bit of advice I am giving you.

Yep thats what I have done several times. Amazing how quick one will fill up with hard water.
 
I'll throw my personal experience in too.

If you are capable, I would strongly recommend replacing the shut off valves. Right now while it's drained with no pressure.

I don't know how many disasters have been avoided because my wife stays home. So she been home and able to cut power and water to things before they ever cause damage.

I had one of those valves spew, shot water everywhere. After I replaced a water heater
 
Yes it will be for sale shortly. I like these trucks, but prefer the 67-72 C-10's, but these 85-87 model trucks have really gotten popular over the last year or so.
