I always wish I could have more open space like that. But I always seem to collect clutter.



I guess size does matter.
 
Since patrick murrah got ahold of this thing the ol lady been keeping it clean. It's beat wash repeat these days.

Got a new 2017 street glide special. 107ci with some extras. This things rides so smooth and has plenty of power on tap.

So forgive my ignorance....but are Harleys(I'm talking MODERN Harley's, not 1970s' ****), really as unreliable as the Honda / Metric nut swingers make them out to be?

I have a hard time believing a modern bike would have problems.

The Honda nutswinger places are always talking about "my buddies Harley death wobbles....hasta fix it every ride....all the *****es look at my bike and not my buddies Harley".

I'm not brand loyal...I like what I like. If Daewoo came out with a cool car I could afford, I'd buy it. I occasionally ride in bike groups and the only thing I hear is "THATS A HONDA?!" Then it's a 50/50 reaction of "Oh....thought it was a real bike" and "Damn, that's pretty cool! Wouldn'ta thought that!"

You've got a Fury, right?

When I showed up to buy my fury, the dude's dad had a Rocker C sitting in the garage next to it. I immediately started drooling and complimenting it. It's one of the only Harleys I've ever looked at and wanted to own based on looks.

They both immediately started talking about how unreliable it is and how he should have bought a Fury too. Blew my mind. I can't speak for the rest of them and can't speak from experience at all. I am not a brand whore by any means. I bought my Fury because it looks good and was 1/4 what a Rocker would have cost me. If I had it to do over again, I would have bought another road star Warrior.

In large groups, many Harley guys are snobs. One on one, they will admit that they like some other bikes. I do not find mid-90's up Harley's to be unreliable any more than another neglected bike. I have had both a 99 Buell and a 99 Ultra Classic. I have worked on each as much as I have my 96 Yamaha Virago and 05 Kawasaki Nomad

That Rocker C is badass looking....till I saw the price!

My honda fury has only a,few gripes from me.

Small gas tank
Some plastic parts rattle
Transmission is super notchy....nuetral is sometimes hard to hit.

My sportster never gave me any problems but it was a 2015. The motor design though was the same 80's evo just with fuel injection. The new Milwaukee 8 seems to be a good platform. It is a little more modern than most die hard Harley snobs probably like. It has 4 valves per head, oil cooled heads, single cam shaft, counterbalancing, etc. Mine dynoed at 88HP 112ft lb to the rear wheel.

Once Harley came out with the "Evo" Motor, then the "Twin Cam" it changed the game for reliability. I know guys that have put 100k miles on their HD with little issues.

Harley's are very reliable nowadays, old bikes rattled apart, my first bike was a Honda shadow saber 1100. I thought it was a nice bike till I rode a Harley, Harley handled much better and more comfortable to ride, got rid of the Honda and bought a 2006 street glide.

What have you had to do to your Nomad? I have an 06 Nomad about to hit 21k miles. Bought it with 13k miles 2 years ago from original owner. Have not turned a screw on it.

A friend of mine's granddad had one of the later Nomad 1500 fuel injected version, last I heard was about to hit 100k miles, not sure if he made it past 100k or not before he died a few months ago. He was 80 something year old, still riding every day, was getting on his bike to go for a ride, something happened like a blood clot turned loose inside him or something, fell over on the bike in the yard, was taken off life support and passed a couple days later. If any of us could say we lived life that hard til over 80 years of age, we will have got our time's worth. He went down as a certified badass in my book.

Have we discussed Warriors before? Not sure if I knew you had one. I've had two, they are fun as **** but I sure did take a liking to the creature comforts of a bagger when I bought my Nomad. My Warriors were both 02 models, the first year, with the ****ty ass seat. God, worst ****ing seat I've ever sat on. Ass numb as **** within an hour of riding. Bought a $400 Mustang seat, looked gay as ****, and wasn't much better in terms of comfort. Now my buddy's 07 Warrior Midnight, much more comfortable and tranny seems to shift smoother. Both ones I had seemed to shift clunky as ****. His 07 seems to be geared better than my old ones too. Those bikes really should come with a 6th gear. I would go with a Raider or even a Stryker before I would go with a Warrior again. But I'm gonna stick with old man touring baggers lol.

Damn, that's pretty solid numbers for a stock vtwin! Any basic performance add ons? Exhaust, filter, fuel controller, etc?
