Yep. And we we always thanked mom for cooking. We didn't have to say we liked it but we better say we appreciated her cooking.

Yup....a "thanks mom" went a long way. She wasn't the best cook when I was growing up, but I didn't realize that till my Dad made me a REAL hamburger while she was gone for a few days.

It got served to me with the words, 'Don't you dare tell your mother you liked these better than hers". I asked why his were better than hers(I was around 7 or 10 or something), and he said because I don't leave it on the grill for 4hrs and turn it in to charcoal. LOL

My mother would boil everything except meat. She was never much for adding seasoning ether.
I used to hear it from both my parents "During the war you learned eat things you don't like or go hungry" They grew up in England during WW2. My mother never saw a orange or a banana till she was 14.

Man I'm spoiled, my mom is a awesome cook, guess that's why I'm fat lol, I go my moms every Sunday to eat and she packs all the leftovers in Tupperware and I eat good for a few days, my dad was a cook in army so his cooking sucked unless it was on grill then it wax awesome for some reason

Mom's an amazing cook. We grew up poor, but always had beef. Not a poor person thing to hear, but we had no money, and a dairy farm. Never went out to eat, never went on vacation (dairy farm, duh) etc. Had to cobble everything together to make it keep going, but you have Milk and Beef at your disposal in that situation. When I talk to my other poor friends about childhood, they talk about beans and rice and potatoes, I talk about hamburger, they're like, "**** you and your lavish meals growing up". My 8 yo is turning into and ingrate. I don't know how much harder I can beat him. Too much time with his mother.

We were so poor growing up my parents couldn't decide weather to get clothes or toys, so one year a got a pair of pants with a hole in the pocket.

We lacked a lot growing up. My younger brothers had it a little better than I did but still didn't have alot.

Same here! Mom was a damn good cook. My ol lady is too. She cooks damn good and loves to do it to. We have a good dinner damn near every night. I really am spoiled.
