The shafts are 16ft long. The one that is broke got of balance, we think. And when it broke, it beat the crap out of the other ones

They call them flattnee rolls. Each of these shafts are turned by 300hp electric motors, then to a gear box, on the output side there is six shorter shafts that actually turn these rolls. A strip of steel goes through the rolls, and they get any edge wave out of the steel. Then the steel goes through hydrochloric acid to get impurities out
 
I will try to get pictures of this next week, to help understand. It's called a pickling line. Basically cleans the steel we produce
