When is something offensive or racist or both or is there a difference?

Is it the words? Is it the tone? is it the subject content?

Is it racism if there is no hate? Can I hate without being a racist?

Or is it all just BULL****?

Who should this offend? The chruchies? the Bruthas? The Chineese?

Sticks and stones may break my bones but whips and chains excite me.:D

Rasicism (I am guilty of this) and freedom of speech aside - I'm an azzhole........and when I see another one, I let him/her know. And I relay my message in an aggressive (but helpful) in-your-face way. This is how you get through to the azzhole.

I'm just as concerned about words as the actions behind them. It all starts with the words we speak.

"You stupid redneck hillbilly, sister humping, wife beating, disgusting violent alcoholic, fat, loser and worthless bastard." Imagine if this was actually directed and a person and not just used as an example of what NOT to say.

I think a lot of it is fed by those who want to be offended. I see it a lot at work. People go out of their way to make a big deal out **** that is not there. They want attention, that's all it is. Its just as racist to hate for color as it is to help or support one based on color, like a black getting a promotion over a white dude just based on color. That should piss off the black guy just as much. I am a **** to a lot of people, and couldn't care less about color. Those I really have issues with are the tweakers, they made a choice and chose the life, you cant pick your race.

I dont like being called ignorant just because I use the word n****r. The same people that cry about that probably use the words homo, *** or retard.

Thin skinned people are just that.

I dont like being called ignorant just because....

"****** is a noun in the English language. The word originated as a neutral term referring to black people, as a variation of the Spanish/Portuguese noun negro, a descendant of the Latin adjective ***** ("color black").[1] Often used disparagingly, by the mid 20th century, particularly in the United States, it suggested that its target is extremely unsophisticated. Its usage had become unambiguously pejorative, a common ethnic slur usually directed at blacks of Sub-Saharan African descent."

"Ignorance is a state of being uninformed (lack of knowledge). The word ignorant is an adjective describing a person in the state of being unaware and is often used as an insult to describe individuals who deliberately ignore or disregard important information or facts. Ignoramus is commonly used in the US, the UK, and Ireland as a term for someone who is willfully ignorant."

The irony is not lost on me. I'm not calling anyone names. I am telling them what I think of them and their words.

DHR Darren - Speak with sophisticated awareness, then ignorance will not be assumed.

It's easier to just call the lowest common denominator of any race naggers. That's all they do anyway, they nag about this nag about that and it's never their fault when something bad happens to them.

As far as ni**ers go I know of them in all races, most of them are white ironically.

Mariam Webster's definition of a word is not necessarily the absolute be all end all definition either. The urban dictionary is more closely related to the true definition of slang as used by people currently.

The 4th definition of the word ni**er in the urban dictionary is what I go by.

Ni**er:

nigga, niggah etc. al.(noun)1.describes an ignorant, uneducated, foolish individual regardless of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, etc.
2. endearing term between two or more individual to describe a friendship or bond.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=******

You could devote a life time to the intellectual pursuit of answering those questions.

Bottom line is if your actions are directly or indirectly hurting someone else it's not cool.

i might be what some of you would consider a churchie, not sure lol, but that does not offend me. lifes too short to get pissed off over petty little things, unless its an asian merging on the freeway at 45mph then its valid. woops was that racist :redneck:.

racism = hating some one because of their skin color.

prejudice = hating the behavior you expect most times based on skin color

Question:
Do the words of "prejudice" affect how YOU sleep, work, pay your bills, recreate or conduct your daily life?

I didn't think so.
People need to pull their noses out of what others do or say if it doesn't affect them directly.

Racism deals with race specifically, doesn't necessarily have to deal with an offensive term, phrase, or stereotype, as brought up by NotSoPC. You have the freedom of speech to say what you will, how someone will react to your words is a different story. I've had many friends of different races, and we have all said things that other people of similar races would find offensive. And even if you don't say the things, racism also plays in most every one else's day. Walking down the side walk, you look and judge everyone as else walks by, people size each other up, look at their attire, and also make judgements on the color of their skin, I'd place it under the category of survival, even though that term brings it down to a primitive nature, and not where I mean to put it.

As far as the "n-word," Chris Rock has a great bit on the use of it, and he goes to say that that word shouldn't be subject to people of a particular colored skin tone, but to people who are an active description of the word; the urban dictionary definition brought up by WHITE TRASH.

My two pennies.

And even if you don't say the things, racism also plays in most every one else's day. .

VERY good point. Asains (most) are one of the most RACIST folks I have dealt with and they dont say a single word. Its in their actions.

Orientals will only hire asian roofers, mechanics, doctors, retail etc.

They spend NO money with any other race if they dont have to.

Unfortunately this is one of the MOST powerful forms of racism there is.

So you're saying that because the gooks, zipper heads, slant eyes, ching chongs, coin slots, chinks, fish heads, rice pickers, slopes, wogs and yellow monkeys do it that its ok for us too? :redneck:

Maybe here in the upper 49 states, but in Hawaii they don't. I was born and raised on the island of Oahu. The diversity of ethnic background we were raised is in our culture. I grew up with basically most ethnic backgrounds.
All the bad names in the book, I can call my friends by and none get takin by wrong. It's the way your tone and how it comes out of your mouth that makes the name calling offensive.
I traveled the world from surfing as a kid, fighting, military, and just being a tourist as a adult. The only time I did something about it is when it was said in my face. I'm not a prick, nor an asshole. I laugh when the big guy thinks the small Asian guy will do nothing when he's all up in his face.
