Thanks to the recent boot thread, I have some good ideas how to get them on. But now I have 2 questions.
I noticed 1 end of the inners has a snap ring on the end. Is that the side that goes into the bell? Also, what is this tool?

Yes snap ring into bell and that tool is to remove them you grab the end of the bell and pry against the knuckle

Awesome thanks. Also, assuming the boot fits through the knuckle, can I put everything together first and then slide it all in?

I just hung mine on the wall in the garage so I could stare at it., it's the most expensive hand tool I own!!! :****: laughing1

Boot will not fit thru the knuckle.

2005+? I would think it would fit, that's a big ass hole the unit bearing sits in.
Yeah, I realized after I posted that that I can just hold up the boot after the bearing is out and that would give me my answer right there

The c clip end of the shaft popped out of the bell on mine one time and stripped the splines. They sent upgraded snap rings with the replacement but I didn't find them until I was putting the box in the dumpster. I had made a spacer to go in the carrier to make sure the inners couldn't move again. Not sure why it popped out I thought maybe i installed wrong or something but you could see on the splines where the shaft had been seated correctly. they said it had happened to several people.

Ouch. I remember something about them offering a grade 8 snap ring as an upgrade. I know mine are grade 8 on the end of the stub shaft and they appear to be the same as what is on the bell end. Hoping for the best here.

How old are they? I'm hoping they fix that before I got mine last fall????????

Exact same thing happened to me.

I assemble my shafts and pull the knuckle. By far the easiest way to get them in and out. :****:

I don't believe that's possible with the 05+ SD60's. I think the bell would make it impossible to get the lower ball joint nut on

Didn't think of that. Mines kingpin

Naaahh, they're pretty crappy axles. Ball joints, no short side axle tube, big heavy brakes, etc... Prices should just stay right where they're at. ;D
