Re Gearing

Rarely tow
Daily driver, Seattle area.

After going to 33's, feels really sluggish. Heard suggestions to go to 3.73

1. 3.73 sound about right?
2. What should I expect to pay out the door?

I'd say at least 3:73....maybe even 4:10; As for cost, that's kind of a loaded question...depends if you want a shop to do it, or someone knowledgable about setting up gears that does it for play money.:corn:

Another option is to find a rear end with 3.73's in a junkyard and swap the rear end into your rig.

did you have the P265/70R17 (31" tall tire) or P245/70R17 (28.5" tall tire)

3.08 gears in an auto with 28.5 tires your rpm's were around 2000 rpm at 55

changing the tire to a 33 you would be around 1800 now so to get the rpm back to around 2000 you would need to go to like 3.73 which would put your RPMs to around 2100 or 4.10 to 2300 at 55 mph. 3.55 would get you to 2050 or so...

I assumed you have an auto tran with the 28.5 tall tire... so to get the RPM's back to a stock feel you would want to go with 3.55 if available for your application.

Great info!

Stock was P245/70R17

I got one quote for $900, but still seemed pretty high right now. I dont really have any local truck friends for I would have to go to a shop.

55 at 2K rpm? I doubt it, with the OD trans...
I haven't done any math with a real calculator, but given the added rolling weight, combined with rolling resistance, 3:73's would be the minimum i'd go with...:awesomework:

What will give better MPG, and also allow for 35s in later years.

Find you RPM's with stock tires then start playing with the numbers until you find what you want or what is closest to stockish.
