Our apologies for the short notice but we recently worked out a deal with the Saline County Fairgrounds in Harrisburg, IL to host the 2011 Rock Jam 4x4 Challenge. This will be our third Rock Jam event and we are working hard to make it the best yet! The event will take place on the evening of Monday July 25th and will be part of the Saline County Fair. What could be better on a Monday night than corn dogs, taffy, carnie rides, and rock racing?

As last year the event will take place on a short course in front of the grandstands. Again just two classes, Street Class for rigs with mild mods and 35's or smaller, Challenger Class for serious trail rigs and comp rigs (see rules below for specifics, they will be posted within 24hrs). Drivers and spectators can expect the track to have jumps, rock gardens, some decent straights for speed, and whatever else we can come up with to make things interesting.

Registration is tentatively set to begin at 4pm with racing tentatively set to run from 7pm to 11pm. No need to pre-register but please let us know if you are planning to attend so we can get an idea of who to expect. All participants and crew must pay for entry into the fairgrounds and pit area as if they were spectators. We wanted them to change that rule for us but that's how they've always done it.

For those that don't know, Harrisburg is a nice town with approx 10,000 residents. There are two fairly new hotels, plenty of fast food, and a some good local restaurants. Napa, AutoZone, Oreilly's, TSC and a nice new Super WalMart too. The fairgrounds are close to town and easy to find. Here is a GPS/Google friendly address that will get you right next door to the fairgrounds:
Auto Trim Mart
1421 North Main Street (Hwy 34 N)
Harrisburg, IL 62946

The Saline County Fair has always had a strong focus on motor sports and we again expect a good crowd. As always we will do our best to keep the event fast paced and spectator friendly. We hope to see you there! Please feel free to send a PM or post up if you have questions.

I said that the rules would be up within 24hrs and clearly they are not. We are working hard on them and should have them up no later than tomorrow. For those that participated last year you will find that they are nearly identical with a few minor tweaks to address potential problems.

Stay tuned!

Here's the rules. We reserve the right to tweak them over the next week or so but I wouldn't expect much to change.

ROCK JAM 4x4 Challenge 2011 Official RULES V3

Saline County Fairgrounds
Harrisburg, IL
Monday, July 25

Registration: 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Drivers Meeting: 6:15 pm
Racing Begins: 7:00 pm

Introduction
Welcome to the Rock Jam 4x4 challenge! It is the responsibility of each competitor to insure that their actions and equipment are in accordance with all designated Rock Jam rules and to insure they conduct themselves and their vehicle with professional and sportsmanlike conduct. The publication of and compliance with Rock Jam rules does not in any way guarantee, warrant or imply safety to competitors or spectators. All rules are subject to Rock Jam Officials' interpretation.

General Rules
Competitors are not permitted to use Alcohol and/or Drugs before or during the competition.

Competitors must keep all body parts inside the vehicle at all times while it is under way.

Driver of Record / Payout requirements
The driver who starts the first heat of the race will be considered the driver of record for the entire event unless officials are otherwise notified in writing by the vehicle owner. Drivers may change from heat to heat but the vehicle cannot. Driver of record will receive payment in the event of a win. Driver's vehicle must cross the starting line under its own power in at least one race of the final heat to qualify for receipt of payment. In the event that more than one vehicle does not complete all laps of a heat their placement for the final will be determined by how far they made it around the track.

Starting Line
Race vehicles should be arriving in the pre-race staging area as the race before them is set to begin. If a driver is in the first race of a heat the driver and his/her vehicle should be at the start line 5 minutes before the announced start time. We will announce a 2 minute warning if the driver is not present at the starting line when race time approaches. If the driver is not present when the race starts that driver will receive maximum time for that race. Maximum time will be determined by track officials on race day.

False start
If a driver has a false start they will be permitted to finish the heat but will gain a 10 second penalty.

Red Flag Protocol
If the race must be stopped for any reason the race will be completely re-started. If the race was stopped due to an impaired vehicle that is a hazard on the track that vehicle will be removed from the course, receive max time, and will not be allowed to re-start. Track officials will have red flags at multiple points around the course - please stop and await further instruction upon seeing the red flag.

Co-drivers
One co-driver is allowed per vehicle.

Exiting the Vehicle
Driver / co-driver cannot exit the vehicle while it is on the track unless they are doing so to reach safety.

Remaining on Course
Drivers will acquire a 25 second penalty if they break any banner or stake, this includes any center dividers on obstacles.

Race Format
Race format will be adjusted as necessary depending on number of participants, weather, final track layout, etc. Race will be based on drivers individual times for each heat. Vehicles will race in pairs, no divider between the lanes except where necessary on certain obstacles. Typical race format would consist of one 3 lap heat. A group of drivers with the lowest total times will go into the final. Number of drivers taken into the final will be decided on race day. Typical final will consist of one heat that would be 1-4 laps. Driver with the lowest total time in the final wins. Times from the heats will not be carried into the finals. Time allowed between heats will depend on number of racers and will be decided on race day.

Vehicle Damage
Vehicle Damage is very likely in all classes! Drivers should consider this carefully before racing. Rock Jam will not in any way be responsible for any damage to any competing vehicle or driver / co-driver's personal items.

Race Classes
Rock Jam official tech inspectors will make the final determination that each vehicle conforms to the class rules. In the event that a vehicle passes tech inspection for more than one class, the driver will be given the option to race in either class. No vehicle will be allowed to race in more than one class.

Just 3 days till the rock jam!

Shawn Fisher has a new motor fresh off the dyno and I know he will cut it loose!

Last Years champ Justin Maloney is swapping a new motor in his TJ after blowing it at the ECORS race and I guarantee it will run strong!

Grady's car is stronger than ever and should be a major contender unless they hurt it at the Badlands this weekend.

There's rumor of a brand new 400hp buggy showing up from Team Maloney. No doubt it will put on a good show if it's ready.

Last years show stealer Todd Davis has a new motor in his Bronco skinned buggy and plans to leave nothing on the table!

The boys from the Show Me State are back and planning to take home some cash!

Chris Cox is fully prepared to gut his TJ in the stock class, will anyone step up and challenge him?

It's gonna be a good show, what else are you going to do on a Monday night? ROCK JAM!:D

Big congrats to Justin Maloney (crawler1) for his second Rock Jam Challenger Class win! Pics and vids will be up as soon as they are available.
