EDIT: meeting location moved down the street to the actual FS office off HWY410.

The FS meeting is next week...TUE 11/10 @ 700pm.

See below for the meeting agenda...notice that the 519 will be discussed. Please attend and be prepared to politely share your thoughts on why they should not make any changes to that spot.

Hello everyone.

First, I want inform you that Gary Larson, Trails Specialist on the district, passed away earlier this week. We donâ€™t have many details on the cause of his death at this point or any information on services. Let me know if you would like to be kept in the loop on services.

We also have our bi-monthly rec. meeting coming up on Tuesday November 10th at 7pm.

Here is a preliminary agenda,

-SnoPark prep.
-Naches Trail closure (Nov. 15) and Evans Creek closure (December 15)
-Present potential dates for saw/equipment certification
-Evans Creek 519 discussion.
-Discuss plans for new Evans Creek map.
-Tread lightly grant opportunity for Evans Creek

Doesnâ€™t seem to be much to discuss in terms of Equestrian side of things this time, unless I am missing something.

As always, let me know if you think something needs to be on the agenda and weâ€™ll see if we can fit it in.

Who is this? Is this a position that affects us? Negatively or positively?

Would it help to try to get a "pro orv" kinda person in Gary's old spot?

I used to attend these meeting and tried to be involved but the USFS doesnt seem to listen to anyone but a select few people in the PNW4WDA. I had one person suggest I should stop going to these public meetings and just go to the PNW4WDA Region 2 meetings to share my opinion and get information about Evans Creek

The width restriction deal and campground expansion is a good example of wasted money and new rules that dont work.

Same spot Ed died. There has been about 20 roll overs. Take a small dozer and push the dirt back up the hill to smooth it out a little like it used to be.

I was there too...in fact the FS employees were the ones suggesting that we work with the PNW4WDA to filter our commentary. They have a long standing partnership with the PNW4WDA...we were the "flash in the fry pan" and didn't last too long. As they expected. I thought that was BS then and I still do today.

So what are you doing today to make a difference? Are you attending the meetings? Do you belong to a club that sends a representative to the meetings? Do you belong to an organization that sends a representative? Do you write letters? Make phone calls? Do you know your elected officials in Olympia? Do they know you and how you feel about OHV recreation?

Some additional thoughts on what it will take to get users involved...

With many people it will take personal discomfort. Until it gets to that point, why put forth any effort, it's not your problem. And they can always blame an organization, that they do nothing to support, for not doing more to protect their sport. It's the path of least resistance.

Anytime we can get a pro-OHV individual into a government job...they immediately become an advo-crate. Someone working within the bureaucracy to help advocate for our cause. So...yes...I'd say it would help.

If they needed someone to run an excavator to place technical gatekeepers in place of the goal post gatekeepers I would help. Or if they wanted to keep the trails challenging instead of just draining the low spots and filling the trail bed with quarry spals I would help.

Is there anyone in the USFS that owns a trail rig and goes out at least once a month? How is it possible for hikers and non wheeling people to manage an ORV area?

Possibly negative Gary was OK to work with. Given the FS budget these days the position probably won't be filled which is probably not a good thing.

Interesting statement Corey. last FS meeting that I remember seeing you at was when derrick and I were chastising Bob for putting the poles on the roads that were supposed to be left open and not subject to the 80" rule. Derrick and I argued with Bob and Mary for over half an hour in this meeting and you sat on your hands and never said a word. The FS works with the pnw4wda because were always there and we get the work done. We don't just whine on the Internet and try to devide the users.

I'm not sure these days...I remember Ian Canaan, the LEO, used to own a jeep, but he has moved on to another position.

Corey, I know you are a smart guy and you know how this works. Those that stay involved have a say...this is what the PNW4WDA has been doing for a lot of years. Don't like what they are doing/suggesting/recommending, then get involved and let your voice be heard. Otherwise, your keystrokes are wasted banter on the interwebs.

As you remember, being a volunteer is a thank-less, shitty job and everyone is ready to point out how you screwed them over.

We all have a choice.

Get involved and make a difference or sit back and let someone else speak on your behalf...and hope they say what you would say IF you were there yourself.
