School me on pellet stoves

Ok after my 1083 dollar bill for 200 gallon of heating oil I need to try cut the cost in the long run. I currently have a wood stove in my living room but my woman can no longer operate it during week while I’m gone. I’m wanting to replace it with something she can manage. Looking at a pelpro brand stove at tsc. Reviews aren’t bad but anybody got any real word experience with these stoves ?

I've got a friend thats got the corn pellet style in his garage/barn . He likes it but he said its not the equivalent of wood heat . The reason he went that route is he row crops and has all the corn he needs and doesn't have to cut wood . He also said if he didn't have the corn he'd go back to wood .

We have always used wood heat. Last year we decided that hauling firewood in everyday was just to much work. We brought a pellet stove. Same warm wood heat, you carry in a clean plastic bag and pour it in, instead of carrying a load of firewood in. We have been buying our firewood last 5 years and did some checking . We bought 3 pallets of pellets and it was $100 less than what we paid for firewood last year. We will see, but so far I am a fan. Pellet stoves are a little noisy, at least more so that our wood stove.

I love my wood stove but she can’t operate it no more. I’m gone Sunday through Friday so I need something for her. She also sleeps in her recliner and the wood stove would cook her and she hates the dirtiness of the stove and the smell.

What brand and model you have. I’m gonna be 50 in a few months and don’t wanna deal with the wood anymore either and it’s too hard on my woman’s back to keep checking the stove and filling it. Plus our grand daughter is there 3 days a week and she getting very mobile and I think this be more kid friendly

I understand your situation completely. I heat my home with about 4 rick + or - a winter . Its a hassle. I cut my own wood with propane wall heaters for back up . Idk about everybody else but my electric bill average has nearly doubled last couple of months so a heat pump is out of the question.

The stove we picked is from England's stove works. We bought it a northern tool. I am happy with it. It is capable of using a thermostat, which I installed. It does not work the way it should and would not waste my time or money on that. Other than that it works great. It does require weekly cleaning and i would recommend something like this to make it real easy.

Well guess I should update this. Got the stove installed and worked awesome for the first week. Came home and lit the stove and it ran about 5 mins and made a real funny noise and shut down, thought auger jammed so I cleaned it all out and all looked good, so next morning I tear into it and not getting power to auger motor. Called tsc and they said they had a returned stove I could swap parts off. Thought the power board went out so swapped it and nothing, just happened to look inside exhaust pipe on back of stove and I seen a feather. Wtf really. Shine flashlight in and sure as **** a bird is jammed in the exhaust fan. Mother ****er. Half a damn day working on this over a bird. Well my chimney is now bird proofed :flipgotcha:
