I am a Toyota guy through and through. Never drove a Jeep in my adult life. (Grampa used to own a CJ-5 though)

I have a 1995 Tacoma for sale. Guy wants to trade me this:

http://fresno.craigslist.org/cto/2778443903.html

Here is my ad:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/cto/2763104306.html

Says most of the 134k is from being towed behind an RV. Looks super clean.

Couple questions:

1. What is resale value/demand. I have no desire to own this thing for very long

2. Assuming he doesn't have a driveline disconnect, does towing it build up the miles? This is key, since the engine would have wayyyy less miles than the odometer shows.

3. Good deal? What things should I look out for, what kind of questions should I ask? Appears to be 99.9% stock, save for that airfilter. California vehicle, and the guy is Military.

Thanks ahead of time guys :)

ok the leep is a 3000-3500 dollar jeep here. 4cyl's dont sell well because most want the 4.0L. Look on our local c/l and see what the stock yj's are going for. You shouldnt have a hard time selling your yota. take more and better pics and it might sell faster. Id walk away from the trade.

Interesting on the YJ. Really, only $3000 for a YJ that clean?

I thought I had good pictures....at least, better than 95% of the ads on CL. It is already the cheapest Reg cab 4WD on there. I will redo my ad this weekend if it doesn't sell.

The only thing good on a 4cyl YJ is the body. Every piece of drivetrain is junk, Ax5, 21 spline np231 and 35/30 combo. An old girlfriend of mine had a 4cy while I still had my 6cyl, was a night and day difference. She also grenaded her trans in that time.

That thing might get $3500 here because it has the hard half doors, but that would be TOP dollar. I agree that no one wants the 4 cyl. It is a clean jeep, but not worth much. I personally would NOT do the trade.

Good Luck!

agreed

I've got a 4cyl YJ and my wife's got a 4.0 TJ. what a power difference.
Your Yota should get more than the YJ, even as clean as the YJ is. Towed behind an RV or not, the miles are gonna hurt the already hurtin (4cyl) resale. i'd walk from the trade.

Im not trying to upset you, just giving my opinion. the 4cyl. is what makes the value low on the yj. your toyota is priced right, and alot easier to sell than a yj in any condition. I would enjoy it till it sells rether than trade into something that may or may not have unforseen issues just to sell shortly after a trade. that is my opinion. you just need some side shots in the pics. no need to redo the ad. throw a seatcover on it or have the seat fixed might get a faster sale. your rig looks nice, shouldnt take long to sell. tax return time is almost here, it will sell soon.

Oh no, didn't make me upset at all! I think the Tacoma is a better truck than the YJ anyways. Tax return season will help me. Thanks! :)

That is not a good trade in your favor.

I couldn't agree more. Based on what everyone said, I called the guy back and said no thanks on the trade.

He thought it was worth $6000

Yeah, he's way off. if i pay 6K for a YJ it'll be built, at least some, and not have that kind of mileage. LOL

I just bought a YJ with a 4.ol, nv4500, atlas4.3 and dana 44s w/ arbs beadlocks etc for 5gs. that is a $2500-$3000 jeep tops, good choice on holdin out:awesomework:

and I was kinda braggin on the  deal i got:redneck::haha:
