Shortening a steering column?

Anybody ever "shortened" a steering column or is it just easier to buy a newer shorter one?

I shortened the stock one in my waggy when I swapped/moved the steering box. Also had to swap to a ujoint style end rather then a rag joint.

Are you trying to shorten a stock style column or one of the aftermarket shafts for the orbitals? I just chopped the inner shaft that slips, stuck the other end/shaft on it and used a piece of an old column to sleeve over the top of the joint.

I can just shorten the inner shaft to make up for the length of the column.
