I saw this add on Craigs list.

Cast Iron Granny 4 speed truck transmission. Not sure what it came out of. probably mid 50's through 70's. the transmission, only, is available. It's complete with top shift stick. it is together, and complete.

Any thoughts on what I can have the guy look at to figure out what it is?

How about just sending you a couple pictures. Even cell phone pics work.

Trying to explain what the reverse gear hump on an sm420 looks like over the phone to someone that doesn't have a clue sounds like would be a pain.

Otherwise, it's got numbers on the side. Still, I'd rather have a picture of the numbers so I can decipher which one is the serial number, which is the date code, etc.

If its a np435 the top will be aluminum. If its t18-t19or t98 it will have casting number below the shifter. if you can get some numbers i can tell you what four speed and ratio and what it was in n year.

I finally got in touch with the seller. I think he's trying to sell it cheap because he doesn't know what it is. I finally got him to did it out of his garage and see if he can find any ID numbers on the case.
