so my buddy phil came over from idaho to help me out on my toyota. He got some great pics as well with his DSLR camera...man I want one of those!

installed a set of trail gear 4" rear springs and creeper shackle hangers, the shackle angle probably isn't "proper" but we set it up so when it fully droops the shackle is 90* and doesn't try to go negative on me, if we were to lessen the ride height shackle angle the shackle really wanted to go past 90* when drooped....

We also got my replacement bed on, not 100 percent sure if i'm going to bob it or not.

got the new rear proportioning valve in and brake lines squared away finally... I swear it takes half my toolbox to put together the brake system in my yota. I guess thats what i get for converting from SAE to metric :)

Also, what is everyone's thoughts on my 4" springs? I've read that they will sag a couple inches, which is what i'm hoping for, they are brand new and haven't even been flexed out yet. I originally had RUF with a stock leafpack that was near flat with vehicle weight, i only had about 1" of uptravel...but now i have tons of clearance and I'm a little taller than i'd hoped for.

i think the rearend is taking a dump on me, sounds like when i unload the gears by going into reverse and then when i load them back up going forward its skipping a tooth. I dont know if it could be missing a tooth on the pinion or on the ring gear or maybe the backlash is out of wack...it only does it when i go into reverse and then go forward again, mainly when my wheels are cranked. time for gears anyways, i'm thinking of trying to set them up myself, i read a few good articles about it and it seems like the 14 bolt will be a good axle to learn on.

I also think i need to shim the front end, im getting a pretty wicked wobble at 35-40. my caster is terrible, around 11 degrees i think, everything else is tight and appears to be in order, thought the stabilizer would heal it but i guess its not a big enough "band-aid" :eeek:

well, i've been collecting more parts, and the past two days have been spent cleaning the garage and prepping for the re-gear. I found a brand new 4.56 and up detroit for the d60 on craigslist for $450 so i jumped on it. The seller said he had another if anyone was interested!

I also got the front axle out tonight and i'm reallllly on the fence if i should start tearing into it and try to do this gear thing myself or if i should just pull the trigger and send the axles out...

I've been reading billa vista's tech over and over again, i'm pretty confident but i know its gonna be an intensive put carrier in pull carrier out ordeal, I wanna run this thing down in oregon in 2 weeks so i have to decide soon! I'm gonna do a little looking around but doesn't anyone know an average cost on gear setup, if i provide all parts and bring the axles out of the rig?

Also got home today to find this waiting on my doorstep:

Totally out of the blue surprise gift from my better half! Awesooome!:awesomework:

-cheers folks:beer:

Awesome, better hurry up and marry that girl. Leaving presents like that. (If i recall when I met you guys, you weren't married, right?).

As for the gear set up, there are several guys local that will do it for a reasonable price. Check with John down at Auburn Car Repair and Offroad. I think Anthony in enumclaw - XO Fab does them too.

Not married yet! you're right its time to put a ring on her finger, we will have been together 3 years this july. I'll call around tomorrow to get some quotes on the gears.

Jack stand time!

in with the new, thanks to john for taking care of my gears. I've got a detroit in the front and I went with a yukon grizzly for the 14bolt and 5.13 yukon gears.

I took out about 9.5 inches, it turned out alright i guess for a wheeler :redneck: next time i'm going to take more time cutting it rather than thinking i can trim here and there to fix gaps. Measure twice cut once right?

here it is last weekend on our way to the fun run at evans

I ran 38 x 12.5 x 16.5 TSLs on my Yota they worked amazing.

Edit: the guy posting below me is a nut swinger.
