taper reaming question?

I need to taper ream a tie rod to fit my Chev 1 ton tie rod.I bought the bit to do it,besides knowing how deep to go is it pretty straight forward?

Yup, just go slow and keep checking depth with the TRE. You don't want to go too deep. Once you hit depth, mark the reamer with some tape and go to town on the other one.

I can mark the bit on my other holes too. I take it no cutting oil is required?

I never used any, but it couldn't hurt.

Did it come with a T-handle? Throw that away and use a drill.

Did you buy a Repairman's taper reamer -or- a Tie-Rod taper reamer?

I ordered a tie rod reamer from PSC for the taper on Chev 1 ton tie rod ends.

I used a hand drill. Just keep it plumb.

if you have a mic, just measure the top of the taper and mark the reamer where you need to stop.

I always do just a hair less than where the depth "feels" right. The 1.5* reamer is just slightly different than the factory stuff, and the TRE always pulls in that last little bit on it's own.
