The economy sucks

I laid off a few contractors today. I saved a few (placed them with other managers) and lost a few. I had no notice, they had no notice, I didn't want to lose anybody.

Sometimes life is hard.

The two hardest involved one man that cried (well, teared up) and one that couldn't seem to get past his state of shock. I look forward to my next vacation. I'm ready for a break from this stuff.

thats hard to do man. but when you're the big shot sometimes you have to do tough things.

Today is kind of weird. Yesterday we told him that today would be his last day. That's not normally the way I'd handle it but everybody else with reports was doing it that way and I didn't want my guys to hear it as rumor, dread it overnight, etc. so I just did the deed.

It feels like a wake in here. Every keeps stopping by their cubes and saying things like, "How are you doing. I'm so sorry this happened."

It's like they are viewing the bodies.
