I won't :beatdeadhorse: any more but It just sucks being locked out of public lands.... But on the flip side we might actually get to wheel up there Mem. weekend this year, in the dust, but i'll take it as a win either way

Thats when it will be closed for high risk of forest fires.

always a possibility and this year more likely. What sucks is that its not simply because of the fire danger itself but that all of "our" firefighters are gone fighting fires in other states

No you won't...because the closure runs through 6-15-15. This is to "further protect the resources available from damage.."

The unfortunate thing about this seemingly BLANKET yearly closure is that no one can contest the lack of snow pack/moisture this year. Memorial Day weekend is May 22nd - 25th and the closure will not lift until June 15th.

There will be exactly 3 weeks from the point of Memorial Day weekend to the opening of the area. That is also then only opened on a Monday...so you might as well consider it almost 4 weeks to make it to the usable weekend.

4 weeks is a month. One month shot, taken, wiped from a recreational calendar that should actually be expanded in this dry year. One month worth of weekend traffic that will not bring added revenue to local businesses along the travel corridor.

Such a frustration, and such a lack of forward thinking from a slow to react, sluggish administration.

Not quite true either. Its up to the rangers descrestion (sp) were working to open early. Maybe

This is true. And we've got a new Ranger, this year, and by all accounts, she's more open to change than the last Ranger (whom is gone to Kalifornia).

Can anything be done to expedite the opening?

The adopt a trail clubs are having a meeting in Naches tomorrow night with the FS. The way the closer is supposed to work is with a collaboration between the host clubs and the FS. Hopefully with this new ranger that will actually happen. Its all about soil conditions though and that's the bottom line.

yep. all of this because a few people couldn't act responsibly and tore the living crap out of the trails a few years back. those are the real :puke:s

All because people agreed years ago that using the public's land was "resource damage" and we've been back peddling ever since. This is the result we get from our previous generations lack of foresight.

I am always open for change and forward progress. I am just fairly confident in the fact that once a governing body states a disclosure date, that they will hold to that.

This would be great...For I have a feeling that this year will be like 2005 or 2006 where is was 85* in the mountains on Memorial Day weekend. If this year is like that...then it will be a dry one for sure.

A lot of bike trails are open.:D. 4x4 trails should open soon. It's clear up to the rocks but you start hitting snow as you get up closer to quarts mtn. And we all know that wheeling in snow and mud kills salmon and baby seals so lets keep them closed as long as possible.:eeek:
