ok so i got a 95 zj. transmission is a rebuilt. just had a new tourqe converter put in under warranty 4 days ago. the new converter only has 40 miles on it. from 10 to 15 mph the car jerks back and forth while the rpms jump around. what could cause this?

Take it back to the repair shop, and have them drive it..

What could cause this? Too many things. Could be a bad trans. Could be a faulty lockup on the torque converter. Could be a bad motor sensor, or computer.... etc.

well if i put it into 1 or first gear manually and keep i there it doesnt do the shifting thing.

I had tranny problems once in my old chev. I went through 3 transmissions, and 2 new shift modulators, before I figured out it was a stupid cracked vaccuum line.:mad: I hope it's something simple:awesomework:

yea. it was so simple that the ase certified tech couldnt figure it out. stupid governer and shift solonoids. the tech was tryin to say i had a lowspeed miss fire.

My wife's 94 kinda does the same thing at about 60mph. Feels like the TC is unlocking and re-locking. I wonder if its the same thing. It doesn't do it all the time though. :corn:

also on zj the shift band if they arnt adjusted properly it will shift funny. but your issue sounds like the whole thing maybe going out.

Is the transfercas full? And what bout the tires. Cause if you got two different size tires or two different tread depths then the t case could be binding up. The tread diference is supposed to be 3/32 and no more.

This is sort of off topic for the original post, but my brother's Comanche had a similar problem, seemed like the TC was locking and unlocking randomly on the highway at speed... it turned out it was, because the brake switch wasn't adjusted properly... if you held the pedal up with your foot, it wouldn't do it, but as soon as you let go of the pedal it would put a little pressure on the switch, making the computer think you were stepping on the brakes, thus unlocking the TC. During this time the brake lights were also on driving down the highway. :haha:
