Shell refinery at March Point requires everyone through the gate to have one, or you have to have a babysitter. They can't let you out of their sight--not even to use bathroom!

Funny thing is, they don't have a scanner at the gate to make sure you have a twic...the operators are simply required to check 5 people per day to make sure they have their twic on 'em.

That covers from 0600 'til about 0610....

I was told you can flash it at the airport to expedite the security hassle...shoulda seen the look on their face. "What's that!?!???"

Pretty sure all the refinery's require the TWIC card to work up there.

The best was when we took our boat to peir 90/91. We parked the boat at the peir then went home for the night, next morning we show up to get back on the boat and the security gate guard wanted to see our twic cards, well, we dont have them, well I cant let you in.....as dozens of taxis and busses are pouring in next to us to go to the cruise ship that was right next to our boat.:eeek::rolleyes:

When I did deliveries to the docks for NAPA, they wouldn't accept my .gov issued ID, so they called the FBI to come down there. I was delivering to THEIR terminal for the mechanic.

Maybe the unions like it because providing the escort / baby sitter for the guys who won't get the cards keeps more union employees on the dock.

Refusing to play by the rules is sure teaching them a lesson..... :redneck:

i have one. required for ports, refineries, power plants, and other terrorist points of interest. it was easy to get and my union paid for it. it also works as picture ID at a lot of places.
