Just wondering if anyone knows anyone running a Ramsey winch and if so what they thought of it? i know that Warn is the best, but im just looking at all of my options
thanks

I have a Ramsey and it has left me stranded a few times, If I had to do it over again, I would spend a little extra and buy a warn.

I have a Warn and have asked around about the Ramsy and found that the biggest drawback with the Ramsy is that the are Very,Very SLOW.

Have a drink or two while you are bringing them in.

I just got one of these ...

It's a rebadged T-Max EW-9000

not mounted yet, but all reports I've heard say it has a decent line speed.

For those that care/curious, here's a table showing the "spec" line speeds of this T-Max vs an M8K and a 8274.

Code:
               Line Speed ft/min
Line Pull EW-9000 M8000 M8274
   0 37.2 42.0 73.4
2000 18.0 16.0 22.0
4000 13.1 11.9 12.0
6000 10.2 9.8 9.5
8000 8.2 8.0 6.1
9000 7.2

9000 7.2

For the inch per minute slower I'll stay with my warn's as they are the old and trusty. They must have re designed as they used to be considerably slower.

I had a ramsey pro 9000 and while its a very strong winch their slow as hell. in the 7 years it was on the jeep it went thru a motor, several syloniods and the brake broke twice. I now have the warn 8274-50 and have no issues except the damn thing is heavy:cheer:

i have the XD900I warn on the front...works great..way faster than the ramsey re8000 i have on the back...the pull power seems to be about the same...

im getting one of them rebadged summit units.

although the shitty built winch is appealing for the cost, especially with free shipping.:eeek:

*hijack on* The Ramsey REP8000, Milemarker 8000, and the HF 8000 winches are all exactly the same. Same design, same controller, same slow speed. I suspect that the other winches from Ramsey and Milemarker (other than the hydraulic ones) and HF are the same as well. So, if you are going to get one of these slow crappy winches (I have a MM and a HF) then you might as well get it at HF since it is the cheapest. BTW my winches are both SLOW, but work so far. *hijack off*

WTF, you calling me out? ... which WARN are you gunna choose to use?

I'm just posting "spec" numbers for those of us that can't "fit" an 8274. I have an 8274 on a shelf, but for my rig WAY too bulky/heavy to be used. Even an "integrated" wouldn't fit for me. So, I'd LOVE to use the 8274, but ... not a good "fit".

Like the orig poster I needed to buy a "laydown" model winch, and wanna choose something that will be capable, and not "shitty fawkin slo".

My rig is also uber-lite, still wanna play?
