So I got bored today and torn my warn vr8 winch down .reasoning do to a tight fit between the frame rails.
total time to narrow was about an hour or so.
Narrowed up 2"
I machined the weld off the splined hub, then the drum end plate weld off,cut 2" off the tube welded back together.simple to do
I was looking into the rc9.0 but really wanted more then 45ft of cable ,so I bought the vr8 as a experiment. here's how it turned out !

Good to know Eddie. Mine was already narrowed and making some growling noises, so I am gong to pull it apart and see. It's a Warn 8000#

I narrowed my Warn 8000 but i cut and sleeved the center of the drum. I used a piece of 1/2 wall tubing that was turned to fit the interior of the drum and plug welded it. At the time I was concerned I would not be able to weld the ends back straight if i did it the way you did. I have a spare drum that i will eventually cut down and do as you have.

I haven't pulled the rope on my fully, but I know I have better than 40 feet left on my drum. How much does either of yours carry?

I haven't loaded mine yet either I'm shooting for 65-70 feet of synthetic rope.since we had about 1500 feet of 3/8 left over from a job we did out here.

I loaded my cut down winch yesterday. 60 feet of 1/2 inch rope since that is what i had. I would believe that it would easily take 75 feet as I had some more room. Put on a smaller diameter rope and obviously you could carry more.
