What does $25/h get you these days ?

Posted this on IBB but thought about doubling it here.

There is an open position in the team I work in.

Candidate needs to be :

• on time (job starts at 7AM, no excuses)
• organized
• able to drive legally
• somewhat computer literate (you'll get trained on the specific software package, but I won't explain you what is a mouse and a copy/paste)
• pass a piss test at entry and once or twice a year, randomly.

Training is 100% in house. You do not need to have any prior skill-set.

75% of it is behind a desk doing paperwork on the computer
25% of it is handling vehicles in a lot, moving them around, giving them to various transport companies.

Job is what you make it. If you want to do the bare minimum, that's fine, just show up on time and work. If you want to grow, there are tons of opportunity and the company is excellent at promoting within its ranks. Last guy that did the job is now an AGV engineer making $35/h after being on said previous position for 1.5 year.

Pays $25/h, 40h per week, no OT.

We cannot even get an applicant, yet a qualified one.

Location is Chattanooga, TN.

Are we asking too much ? Paying too little ?

I'd be happy to train a 18yo to 65yo dude, girl, monkey, dog, lgbhdtv community member, anyone that has a pulse and wants to work but we are striking out.

Oh yeah, and the team is young, motivated and generally a blast to be a part of. HR even found us our own corner in the open space so we could **** around and not disturb the peace of the place too much because we like to have fun :laughing:

Just read through the responses on ibb, and looked the posting up on Glassdoor. The job description is the hold up. Your description makes it sound very entry level, the Glassdoor implies someone needs quite a bit of experience.

You should negotiate, and I gave you the upper end of the budget we have.

So many open positions and I'm not sure why. Where did all the workers go? I thought the gov't assistance stopped. I can't even get temps to show up. At my wife's restaurant people have asked for vehicle assistance and 401k, for part time making sandwiches. Job market is stupid right now.

We raised a son through that Erea, alot of arguments/fights got started over that. But I can say they aren't totally to blame, alot of 35-50 year Olds are lazy as **** too... They are just setting back waiting for that hand out!!

Plus $25 an hour is poverty level if youre trying to get settled in for life. Mathematically, youre scraping by in 2023 at $25 an hour based on $2000 month house payment, insurance, car payment, groceries, gas, electric, water, and baby supplies (insert other if no baby).

On the other side of that is this... sounds like a great opportunity for somebody!

My biggest financial mistakes were being a senior in high school during the 2008 crash, and staying at my last job 7 of 7 years too long.

You should try to get people to come work in a steel mill these days. It's hot and nasty, and 4 on, 4 off swing shift. The kids these days want a cushy climate controlled job, where they don't get their nails dirty. We are starting people off at around 100k a year, 401k, insurance, 3 weeks vacation, and profit sharing, and we still can't get people who want to work.

That's the damn truth. Coming from the oil and gas industry, it's was a hard adjustment. Been there a little over 6 years now, and still struggle with all their safety crap
