Whatcom County Snow wheelin' Sat Dec 6th

So me and a few buddies from b'ham are planning to head east out 542 towards mt. baker next weekend.... Twin Lakes. The trail may or may not be easy, depending on snow depth... so recommended lockers f/r and 33+ tires.

Elevation tops out at 5200', and the road is about 7miles out. so if you've been wanting to have fun in the snow, this should be good =D

There is snow in Whatcom Valley?

There is only 10 inches at the Ski resort so far at 4,300. It's been a bad year for snow.

heh. well heather meadows (mt baker) is at 3,500 ft. Its top (pan dome) is 5089ft. We'll be getting up to about 5200, but if it doesn't start raining/snowing nicely friday, we may have to wait.

Next week though, rumor has it the mtns will get DUMPED on! too bad my friends will be gone by then =/

well my friends are leaving for Australia on the 9th, so this weekend is it. We'll be heading rain, snow, or shine.

I live in Whatcom County out towards Baker and it's not supposed to snow until Sunday. I've driven to twin lakes in a stock suv with my kids in the back seat. Unless there are leftover drifts from last year or any new washouts it's just a logging road up to the lakes.

yah, thats what I'm worried about. Last year we attempted to get to lost lake, and couldn't because of snow. I was hoping that we'd see a good 20-30" from about half-way up to the lakes, but looking at baker's levels, this might not be sticking around either.

So we may choose somewhere else. We'll probably figure it out friday.

saw this on the weather report from Komo today:

"Now, before skiers and snowboarders give up for good, there is a rather significant change in the weather pattern hinted for mid-December. Colder air out of the Gulf of Alaska should change things toward some significant snow up in the Cascades by the middle of the month."

... so perhaps the 20th should be a good weekend! =D =D or a christmas eve wheelin' trip

i think i will have my **** done by then

snow wheelin is where it's at. exactly were around mount baker were those pictures taken? i ride snowmobiles on the north and south side all the time, i have seen quite a few forest service/wheelin trails on the way up to the south side,:corn:

Looks like twin-lakes should have 12+" of snow, judging on the fact that Pan dome has 12" and only sits at 4400 feet. Its also raining lightly right now down here, so there may even be a little snow up there =D

Those pics were up to Twin lakes. There was about 3 feet of snow when we ran that in the middle of December last year.

Looks like tomorrow will be an exploring day.. we have a few FS roads up our sleeves to find.

Don't forget, south side of Baker usually has a bit less snow then the north side. I will be up there Sunday afternoon looking for Christmas tree's in the Tracker.

Hey drone, up approx 1 mile past the Ranger station is Glacier Cr Rd off to the right, there's usually good ones up that way!!!:awesomework:

glad to hear that we're on the north side. It rained last night down here (B'ham), so I'm guessing there should be good few inches. Up high. *crosses-fingers*
