Re: Wildcat cage....(Pic heavy)

Figured I'd just add to this post rather than starting a new one.....

Yesterday I got started on a set of doors. I knew from the start I wanted doors....All the aftermarket doors seem to be nice....I just couldn't justify buying something I could make for roughly 1/3 the price. I hit up Blue Torch Fab for a bunch of tabs and the "Poly-Bushing & Sleeve Kit". I ordered my latches from McMaster Carr.....After TONS of searching online for something that was strong and wouldn't rattle like hell. (the cheap ass latches drives me nuts!) The poly bushings are made for (and come with) a machined piece of 1.75 x .250 wall tube. They are a tight fit, so I knew I was taking a "rattle point" out with them....Plus its the best way I figured out to do it.

Anyway...On to the pics/progress....
Here's what I started with...

Pretty good way to mount these....

I was gonna bend them out of one piece and never could get to look I wanted....I wanted them to fit tight with the door lines. Bending wasn't gonna get the right look for me. So I decided to use strait pieces. I did knock the top bar out to 30* for shoulder/arm room at the request of my wife.

That's it for now....Heading back to the shop now. Should make good progress today....

Those doors are gunna be nice. I know what your saying the aftermarket doors are extremely high for the quality of door you get

Nah I haven't done anything on the clutch.

So I had a good day in the shop today.....Got a lot done and everything went together smooth.

I wanted to use the stock location as it's positioned pretty well, easy to access and out of the way getting in and out...I cut the existing plastic dash portion to get a little more room to work with. I followed the lines and it worked out great.

For my latches I got from McMaster Carr I used the seat mount tabs from Blue Torch to lock into. I drilled the holes in the tabs slightly bigger to fit the plunger of the latch.

These things are thick and solid....You can see they are just about right for the plunger depth....

I cleaned up the existing bracket to weld my tab to and tacked it in....

The other tab I planned to use was too shallow to notch for the tube and still line up, so I cut my own piece and tacked in the latch assembly....

The driver side went pretty quick after figuring out the other side....

I'm gonna go back and cap the top tube that's open....AND in my hurry to get done and take a look at it....I managed to forget welding in tabs for skins....Have to go back and do that too. Oh well....Happy with how they turned out. Nice tight fit and stronger than offered in aftermarket.

Yes they did turn out good! Will those latches work like slam latches? Or will you have to pull up the pin every time when closing them?

Yea just pull the pin. It's spring loaded. :dblthumb:

You could taper the pin a little and put a lil ramp on the cage side latch

Got my seats and harnesses in today. I put Corbeau Clubmans in it. They fit great and not much fab getting them to bolt up.

These sit lower than factory so I'm gonna ride and see if I need to raise them up a little. Very happy so far though. :dblthumb:
