Yj fuel pump

The mechanical fuel pump is going out on my yj so I am replacing it with an electric pump that is mounted at the tank. Is it necessary to buy the block off plate for the mechanical pump or can I just pump fuel into it and roll with it? I'm also assuming since it is a carb it needs low volume? I need one of you really good mechanics hurry up and answer this so I can get it done this afternoon ;D

Not sure on the plate but when running an electric pump on the carb be sure to use a regulator .
