Definitely not knocking the Hemi but when my dad was street racing in the seventies with his 440 CUDA he said that's what everybody was running was the 383s/440s because the hemis were so out of tune and nobody knew what they were doing with them back then. I'm sure cost was a factor to though.

I remember him saying he ran a few Hemi cars and they were just dogs out of the hole but they would definitely come on the big end(near/after the 1/4 mile).

Most of their racing was 1/8th mile though.

Saw that the other day. I pretty much can't imagine any more of a perfect life for a man like myself. I'd give my right and maybe my left nut. To be one of them fellers.
 
It was really cold here in South Dakota last night. My infrared thermometer says -29 on the engine. Figured I would do a cold start on my two 7.3 powerstrokes and 6.9 IDI. The red one jells up at the end of the video. Pretty sure we forgot to put Howes in it. None of them were plugged in over night.

7.3 powerstroke, 6.9 IDI cold starts. -27 F
